Naitanui a likely target for GWS

I don't think signing up Naitinui for a long time will be a problem. The bigger issue is that we really are struggling with the Salary Cap.
We only have 4 genuine stars who are on big contracts, although they are past their prime in Cox, Kerr, Glass, Embley...so why are we paying 100% of our SC? We are either front ending a lot of contracts for our future young guns or it is really really bad management.

just read the article and did not realise how screwed we are. If we lose Naita and Lecca to GWS because of our list management i may just go Taxi Driver crazy.
Surely SGIO need a Palm Tree Ambassador. How can the public of Western Australia possibly be informed of the plight of palm trees without one?

You would think Naita would want to stay here with his family and mates but money talks and a kid from Fiji in Western Sydney would be exactly what the AFL would want.....exactly what it would want.
You offer him 1 Million dollars a year plus advertising and no one in his situation would knock that back.

If we are cellar dwellers this year as well I suspect another round of players wanting out and just maybe LeCras and Naita will be 2 that look elsewhere.

From the moment Kevin Sheedy was appointed coach - he talked about Naitanui - so it hardly comes as a surprise.
When you consider the island population of GWS and the desire to continue growing the game throughout the pacific - it's a logical step - especially considering Naita is already involved in promotion of the game with Rodan and Carlisle.
What will more than likely keep him here of course is his mum. He still lives at home and is a massive family man.
That and the fact that it won't be his last contract. If he turns into the superstar we all hope - he'll eventually be on a $1m a year here. If he was 25/26 I'd be more worried as it might be his last contract
Edit: I might add - going to GWS isn't going tobe as attractive as going to the GC.
Look at the blokes that went to GC - Ablett was the star, but he had more than just money to go for, the rest were largely blokes topping up (rightfully) their superannuation.

The guy is a freak granted but he can't play football full stop. Having him in the team for 22+ games on the hope that just maybe he might do something doesn't make sense to me. He needs to improve his consistancy and become a solid contributor.
I keep hearing people say 'but he's still learning the game', if he's still learning the game then why the hell is he playing at the elite level??

At this present point he is just a kid with potential and that is all, he up to this point other than few brief periods in the sun has done nothing to suggest he can warrant the money people are talking about.
If it came down to we have to pay him huge money now to keep a kid with potential then I would not be worried in losing him.

I am sure we have just front loaded contracts to ensure we will have $$ to burn for when these kids are older.
There is no way we are paying Naita 800k though. If they are willing to offer him that and he doesn't have enough loyalty to take what he is worth, then cya later mate, I hope you enjoy living in Sydney. He would be hugely missed by all.

I don't think he's learning the game, he knows how to play it, he is though doing an apprenticeship under Cox, and developing/improving his game by playing against the best. 4. Ahh, why are: Roughead, Mcevoy, Vickery, Goldstein, Hampson, Jacobs, Kreuzer, etc playing the game???? They are all around Nats' experience/age level and Nat is already ahead of all but one of them (on par with Kreuz). He can play footy?? In a pack he is rarely able to mark which a must for a big man, he has very little kicking distance and is still struggling to get his head around ruck postion as to not give away free kicks. I'm not sure why you included Kruezer in that list since i'd have him any day over Nic... and the rest I have no interest in so i'm glad they're not on our team.
Yeah he is still developing and I hope he becomes to champ but he needs to become a real 4 quarter contributor, that being said the same could be said for most of the squad.
If he had a busted shoulder why the hell was he playing he should have been rested, now they're stuck with him returning to preseason training late due to OP recovery so he may not be at full fitness for round 1.
If GWS grab him so be it, but I imagine them having eyes on bigger fish.

Sheedy needs the media attention associated with NN.
There will be a huge push by GWS to attract Sydney bred players. NN is half there and West Sydney is well populated by Polyanesians - but they have Isreal F to tick that box.
Others that fit the Sydney bill are Mc Vey at Essendon (falling out wth the club and getting old ala C. Brown), GWS's own D. Addison from the Bulldogs (Bankstown junior)

Are you serious? Naita is the only one who can take a pack mark. Watch his highlights reel again. He almost has mark of the year 5 times.
He can kick 50 metres + also. He's just always in a congested position (same as Kerr) so gives off the handball. He has created so many goals for Lecras with his tap work and handball release.
Players often play with injuries if it's not going to hamper them long term. It was a cyst in his shoulder (it wasn't going to grow). If you're going to have a crack at players, Masten and Ebert are easier targets but Naita is clearly our best young talent.
