nathan brown $500 grand a year

Don't follow the doggies that much, so i have no idea if he is worth $500 grand - but i doubt it going on some reports from a friend at work who sees them every week.

Wouldn't matter who it was, i don't think any player is worth getting at that price - well, maybe a couple - wouldn't have minded Lockett when we had the opportunity.

To me it's narrow mindedness by the club - just as bad as looking for quick fixes on the other end of the scale - as in duds.

Wish they'd develop a list of good players - not a mix of 3 superstars and 38 duds. Because we've seen in the case of Gas this year, that once he's injured, leaves a big hole. Rather have good players on the list that when one is injured it's not as great an impact. Does that makes sense? Probably not.

I can see the impact on kids like Coughlan and other kids coming up saying to themselves "can't wait for next contract negotiations - bring 'em on".

Its a great trick to throw buckets of money at an out of contract player, Carlton offered Power 600gs. Puts the market value up and makes it harder for the club he is at to budget for him. I believe the doggies will sign brown and then have no money for Murphy....

You can say whatever you like about Nathan Brown and Robert Murphy, but I think that they will both stay in the red, white and blue. Why is it that clubs have sudden interest in players after a few years, when they could have got them for cheap in the year that they were drafted by other clubs.

I guess something called player development

To recruit Brown will set us back another 3-5 years. Not up to it at the bulldogs, so what has he got to offer us?
A classic case of Frawley and Miller having short term vision to ensure thay get a nice pay check from the RFC for more than one year.

A tale of "Not up to it at the bulldogs"

2002: 70odd Goals plus quite a lot of midfield time
2003: 56.50 After a poor year in a wooden spoon side

I agree quick fix's have got Richmond into the state it is in now, However these have been quick fix's with hack players,
Nathan G. Brown is a Gun

Quick fixes havent always been a problem either, remember Paul Broderick and Butch Gale..

Greg Deal was alright also...... Not worth a no1 pick though....

I don't know about not being up to it - he has a great record - see link to Doggies site

http://westernbulldogs.com.au/default.asp?pg=players&spg=playerprofile&personid=13579

I just don't know if one player at 500 big ones is worth it - much prefer to see a list of good players like the Swans have developed than a list of hacks topped up by a couple of stars who, if they don't perform or get injured, leaves us suspect.

Then again, if we offload Richo and a few others, we probably could afford him - but still a risk me thinks.

A good ordinary player at best. He is no match winner and a 500k a year, he is just not worth it. (Didnt Matthews say the same thing?)His best is still not good enough for the bulldogs to be a bottom 4 side, so what does he have to offer us?

Did you see the 7 he kicked in R11 against the Eagles with a dodgy shoulder, I think they lost the game by a point but I think that it showed he is definetely rates among the best small forwards in the AFL

P.s Of course Matthews was going that considering there is no way they could afford him in there salary cap

Your absolutely clueless, how many ordinary players have made the All Australian team in a year when they played forward and a year in which they played back and throiugh the midfield

Kicked 60 goals in 2002 in a side who won more games then Richmond did in 2003. And Bubs you were a bottom four side yourselves, its not like he's joining Brissy where they have guns coming out their backsides, he' joining a team that has struggled for 20 years. He would be a great get for Richmond, probably to play midfield

And if we offload Richo, we will need another enigmatic, overpaid star to spray the ball across the goal-face.

To all you doggie supporters, if brown is such a great player, how come you lot are such a rabble. He is overated beond belief and has nothing to offer the RFC. Like Richo! If we get him, will he hold the club to ransom in 3 years time?
The RFC is better of getting fresh, young recruits, not overated mercanaries like Brown.

Yes we need a Kayne Pettifer and a Fiora.. We are so good when it comes to picking up kids....
Brown in a good side is a match winner... BRING him on

Well if your a crap team you can't have any good players

By your logic Matthew Knights was a dud, as was anyone to pull on a boot for Richmond in the last 20 years.

Bob Skilton was a dud, only played one final

Nathan Buckley was a dud up until a couple of years ago

Michael Voss was a dud earlier in his career

Rob Harveys been a dud for the majority of his career

Should I go on???
