Freeman and Scharenberg both leaving? Well that's the future stuffed. They needed to stay and both become guns as pick 6 and 10 couldnt afford to be thrown away.
Good to see your usual glass half full views TG. Always positive!

McCarthy quickly proved himself a future champion and Boyd was a lay down misere no 1 draft pick. Freeman was a speedy player with reasonable but not fantastic under 18 form. He has no right to be demanding anything from a club that has nurtured him through 2 years of hamstring problems. If we could get a pick in the top 20 in exchange or a half decent player, he is welcome to go to whatever club is willing to take a risk with his body.

This is one top 10 that Hine badly misread. The fact that we overlooked McCarthy is favour of the 2 players we drafted indicates that Hine is no better judge of talent than any of the other recruiters who chose other players with their early selections.
And missing Cripps was unfortunate as well

100%. Downright weird that these people (who know nothing at all about recruiting) feel comfortable slagging off our recruiting team because one guy has been injured and one guy might leave. Its not footy discussion, its just moaning

Nope... but your post was pure moaning... about other posters and adding nothing to any footy discussion. I think a discussion about the success or failure of our recent early draft picks is indicative about what bf is all about for most... chewin the fat about footy.

We'll have to agree to disagree

OH no a spoiler - I knew I shouldn't ahve read anything footy related until I had watched the replay.
Ha ha the old spolier.
The day of the spoiler is well and truly over. So funny when say sen says turn away if you dont want the soccer scores to cater for obscure replay watching

So Hine a champion recruiter 1 year and a failure the next! Get over it. The draft is still a lottery. The man's record speaks for itself.

Some of these forums are really deteriorating.

He's a required player with elite talent despite his injuries and lack of footy. So much of footy is based on potential which is why we need to get the deal done.

Come on pies stop friggin around....would rather pay overs for Freeman and Berg than give Toovey, Goldsack et al contract upgrades or extensions

He was an elite junior talent. This often does not translate to elite AFL or even adequate AFL player. Injury riddled bodies so early in careers as young men also does not point to the likelyhood of a 200 plus gamer, so potential has been diminished here.

Thats debatable. He had elite physical capabilities and could a play to a decent level. But he was not the complete package as far as I understand from reading respected viewers and from watching his highlights and VFL games. If you watch his 5 minute under 18 videos he does the EXACT same thing every time. Gets fed the ball runs 20 meters and kicks it 30-40 meters. Thats fine for a link man but in all his highlights I can't remember a single instance of him actually crashing a pack and winning his own contested ball. Yet people claim he is a beast. I can't remember to many highlights where he actually used his pace to get around players like Marsh did in his videos.

From my understanding Hine and others projected that he could do these things an hence took him at a high pick. Just like he projected certain things with De Goey and pendles. It may turn out he was right but he was never a certainty to be an AFL star.

At the time I thought the top 8 up to Aish were easy to pick. After that it was hard because everyone had some flaw. McCarthy had been injured a lot and didn't have a lot of exposed form to go off. Cripps was seen by some as only doing well because he was bigger than everyone else.

In short although I am concerned with signs from Scharenburg I would be much more disappointed to see him go than Freeman.

No way.

Stringer is a game changer. Wines dime a dozen mid.
Dime a dozen? I'd say he'll be in the top 10% of mids once he hits his prime but Stringer-type players are much more rare, definitely

Wines is all hype, runs around in circles with those little steps and bombs away all the time. In 2 years time he will fizzle out to a bit fat player..book it!

I have bookmarked it and will mercilessly shame you when he has his next decent season

If Scharenberg and Freeman want to try and sting us for money they can leave. We have looked after them and supported them through their injury with the expectation that they would become something. They can ask for money then, not now.

I'd rather spend the money on players from 2014 as at least they have shown something.

Agree. Clearly he had the Bont in his sights with a pick in the 10. Would be interesting to know how many other clubs would have picked him in the first round and when the Bulldogs decided to pull the trigger on him ahead of Aish and Scharenburg and any others.

Fwiw, we had Salem ahead of Freeman on our list and would have taken him if available.

Article was a nothing piece as others have mentioned. St Kilda have stated they would be interested if contract not signed in a couple of weeks which indicates to me they think he is going nowhere and that he will be signed up.

My guess on Freeman's contract is there may be some difference between what Freeman wants as a base and what we have offered. Having missed two years we have probably low-balled the base a little and given him performance based incentives.

Once we find the middle ground on Scharenberg (it may be a similar issue with base contract amount), the left over change will be added to Freeman's deal and we will all move on to pre-season, or back to Treloar, Aish and Kreuzer issues.

I can't see a guy who seems to bob up next to Pendles in photos all the time leaving....
