He's not prepared to do the hard work at Collingwood. Based on his unprofessionalism offield, that isn't surprising.

In fairness I go to a physio who was a physio at the Dogs for many years and also at the dons and still has great insight into the industry. We talked about Freeman and her understanding from physio mates in the industry that he was miss-managed in his first year(don't ask for specifics as I am not an expert) and she said that in all likelyhood he will continue to have hamstring problems for the rest of his career. This was late last year. She mentioned that it was quite well know in the industry that our players last year were pushed too hard.

That's cos Davoren's experience is in training triathletes not AFL footballers.

Indeed, the Club actually won 3 Grannys in 2 days, not a bad effort.

Had a good chat to Nathan today and he dead set doesn't know what the future holds. 50/50 is the best I could get out of him.
Money has nothing to do with it and it's all about opportunity. He's worried that with us getting Treloar and Aish, yes he's convinced we're getting him too, he'll have his work cut out. While with the aints he'd just about be a walk up starter immediately. Obviously I did tell him to back himself in and pointed to the facts we do need a line breaker and Swanny is getting on but he already knew that.. He's having another sit down with Bucks in the next couple of days and it will all flow on from there. His hammies are good by the way and I for one would be fairly gutted to see such a decent kid go.

Top stuff PB.

You should send the club an email about that.

Great insight provided by PieBeast. We probably forget sometimes that these guys just want to play. Picking up a player like Treloar can be enough to convince some players that better opportunities lie elsewhere. It will be interesting to see what Freeman decides to do.

Funny how the club will not come to the party money wise when there is what? 100k difference between keeping him or not.
The potential he has is clearly worth it and we should be assuring him that he is in our plans 100%.

To spend 350 to 400k a year on Clinton Young for the return we got is a massive blue that would have paid for 2 Nathan Freeman's.

good post piebeast.
I hope he also realized that if seedy walks there will be a great opportunity for him

Reminds me of the Dawes situation.......back yourself in kid and sign with the Pies.

Sometimes the hardest option brings more reward.

I hope the club and Nathan really talk up his chances of getting in the 22, after all they keep
telling us he is a unwrapped Chrissy present.
after all the talk the club did I would be disappointed if they just let him go

Just give the kid what he wants, we're not in the position where we can let elite kids go. I'd rather keep Freeman on the list than go for Aish.
If Freeman can be elite without playing a game, then Relton Roberts must be on track for Footballer Of The Century.

Worrying that there might not be an opening is an extraordinary attitude from a top 10 draft pick. How about work your ass off to force your way into the team, mate?

Leads me to think that he may have already made his mind up to go.

Maybe the club have reservations about how switched on Nathan is about his AFL career and their offer reflects that?

I won't divulge who but I received a PM here from someone with a close relationship to the club. As soon as the season finished, Nathan and his dad went to every Melbourne based club trying to get a better deal. Only one club took the bait and that was St. Kilda.

Disappointing. But the mediocrity at Seaford is probably a perfect fit for him then. Only wish we could salvage something decent in terms of compensation, but that's probably too much to ask now.

Maybe he knows his limitations and knows that even working his @ss off it will be hard to get into the team. Which is a good situation to be in as a club but hard for a player who wants to get back on the field after 2 years and prove his value. And if another club is in his ear about that, off course he will ask us that question . I am more concerned that he won't get on the park at all then him proving himself. But he needs a solid VFL year and that might be a bit too long for him .

1. IF elite junior talent was guaranteed to develop into elite AFL talent then you might have a valid point.
2. IF
being 19 years old and unable to play a game of football for 2 years due to softy tissue injury was NOT a MASSIVE concern in terms of his future ability to have any sort of longish AFL career or indeed any sort at all, then you might have a valid point.
3. IF the guy realized that effectively he has given nothing back to the club for 2 years since being drafted (in terms of playing football) and that he can't expect any sort of significant contract improvement and IF he was showing a strong desire to remain loyal and repay the club.. then you might have a valid point.

But.. 1. It doesn't; 2. It is 3. He doesn't

So you don't.

How about we keep Freeman and forget about Aish?
According to these figures Aish has the worst kicking efficiency in the competition in his position.
I got this table from the AFL web site.
Everyone is saying that Aish is silk.
This does not suggest that.
What am I missing????

That table doesn't reflect well on Cripps. I can't believe Tom Bell isn't there, he'll fit in well at Brisbane butchering the ball

If he's been shopping himself around to all vic based clubs that's a sad picture of where he's at. Could be a bargain for the Saints.

Hopefully Bucks can paint a better picture for him & convince him to stay, & he works his backside off into our best 22, but it's concerning if he needs Bucks to convince him at this late stage.

Sometimes players think the grass will be greener & there's an easier way. When really in the end it's what you make it yourself.

Just phar Ken roll your sleeves up sunshine, do the hard yards, show us your stuff, & we'll play ya.
