Reckon Matthew Uebergang from Western Magpies is close to a certainty. Tall marking forward. Plays taller than he actually is. Good hands. Good Kick.
Good athlete. Yes!
Big Man Preuss should be on the fringes somewhere. Kicked 3.1 against Easten Ranges in TAC cup game on weekend also 26 Hit outs so busy player for 205cm 102kg reports is also dominated the ruck

where do the players that have missed out every week for the Canberra clubs go to play each week

Damo, what was once our reserve grade comp down here before NEAFL came about is now referred to as AFL Canberra First Grade. The four NEAFL clubs all have reserve grade squads who play in the AFL Canberra First Grade. I believe that only 8 or so NEAFL listed players can play in the 'First Grade' team any given week. The rest of the AFL Canberra First Grade is made up of Tuggeranong, who dropped out of NEAFL at the end of last year, plus a few other local sides who aren't up to NEAFL. There's also Div 2 and 3 beneath First Grade that most NEAFL clubs also field teams in, although my club Queanbeyan doesn't have a Div 2 or Div 3 and instead we are affiliated with another local club that does.
Cheers, Gois

Not having a crack at the comp Doggie, just the assertion that a) its too expensive to run a national reserves grade comp and b) no one cares who wins.

To many passionate club volunteers supporters and sponsors out there, who don't invest the time, commitment and finances just to say, "at least we provided competition for the AFL Clubs and we don't care about winning". In everything we do in life, there is hope, take that away and there is little incentive.

Yes the Bombers v Sharks game was a cracker and that level of competition every week would be sensational. Can they beat full strength Swans, GWS, etc...?

yes they could beat those teams at full tilt but dont get an opportunity to play them during the year unfortunateley....

Ok - saw him play in one of the Academy v Academy games. Thought he was the best big man on the ground but didn't get selected in the initial squad. Looks like he has a bit of manure in him and pretty skilled for a big fella.

Does not mind the physical stuff, came from Rugby League a few years ago up North. Was recruited by Mt Gravatt NEAFL side last year as a 17 year old and in QLD squad last year but a serious ankle injury and then operation killed last half of season. Invited back again this year as an overager for QLD and Suns academy, not many big fellas that size and build around at the moment hence why I think a fringe possibilty of getting a least a look.

ross great players but never stays long or loyal to any club. probably the reason he isnt on a afl list. talent big time but talent wasted.

I saw Tungatalum play a couple of times for the Eagles, and then one day at Mararra in Darwin. Lightning quick with the ball and a real goal sneak but his defensive game wasn't up to it. Too lightly built I reckon.
It will be interesting to see how he goes in the Ovens & Murray (or whatever) where I gather they tackle HARD !

JSG, I'm not so sure about loyalty these days. The game is semi-pro for guys like Tunga and they have to go where they can snare some match payments and a job to go with it. And, of course, as the Hills Eagles will tell you, guys come to a club when they shift areas for 'lifestyle' reasons. The club creates its own loyalties then brings in marquee players to top up the skill set.
There's lots of examples of NEAFL-quality players chasing the bucks, rather than loyalty - I'm thinking of Jarjoura, Shane Harris (Belconnen), Akermanis, Dragacevic, Matt O'Dwyer, Brabazon, Nick Winmar.
You probably don't get marked down for lack of loyalty nowadays because everyone is looking for an exciting new credentialled recruit to get the hopes soaring.

You might be right JB re not getting marked down but conversely reckon you get marked right up for showing it. Its sad when some blokes spend their careers asking what can the club do for me rather than what can i do for the club.

JSG, agree, but disagree with including Akermanis in the above named group. The club he is coaching ( north albury hoppers in the o&m) , finished last in 2012. In Akers first year (2013) he took them to fifth and a finals game with not a huge quality list as they are poor financially. Then this pre season the shit hit the fan as the club could not honour player payments come seasons end.and being some 140k in debt.. as a result a large number of their top playing group left the club and the media frenzy was all about Norths problems and the basket case they are and wont win a game in 2014.Aker laid low during all this turmoil with the media screaming for Akers opinion on the situation even predicting he will walk out on the club.
Well how wrong they were.... Aker knew he had a good bunch of up and coming quality youngsters, has stuck with the club, and they are a chance of making the finals again.....to the disbelief of all the comps followers. Now give credit where credit is due. Aker is doing huge things for the club is this tough time.
Well done to him.

A typical workmanlike performance today by the Bees, sharks really had no fluency in there game, Thynne, Darrin Stewart, Grayson were good for the sharks, Grose was terrific, Hutchinson played a good game, Sansbury and there midfield was on top as you would expect with no first choice ruckman for the sharks.. The game never reached any real great heights

NQ -v- SQ interesting. 18 Cairns players (a lot not locals) for NQ. Local press raising NQ NEAFL side again. Saw some NEAFL games last year. Reckon there would need to be at least 15-20 more imports to have a competitive NQ squad at NEAFL level. See what tomorrow shows for starters suppose. $1M was estimated to have an NQ side - seems heaps.
