NEAFL- 2014

Try again,,, ahh ok its working.
Seanoff,
so on a real level, the Neafl heirachy see the Thunder as being equivalent to the AFL sides, via the above attached competition policies. That's just a joke..!!!.
This NEAFL competition has so many policies, rules and regulations it has become the laughing stock of aussie rules comps in the nation.!!!

Well that's why they were wiped 2 weeks running by the swans and gws ( aside from the travel issues that had them sleeping in sydney airport after the swans game and getting home very early tuesday morning and then flying back to sydney friday). Both those sides were loaded, the swans were playing 18 listed and gws 22 listed players iirc.

If the swans are serious, thunder have no hope. Even if they are competitive for a half, they will get over run. If the swans are serious i suspect it will be over at 1/4 time.

Let me comment, I so much enjoy watching a good NEAFL game,,, it is of a good standard especially amongst the top 6 or 7 sides,,,,, the point im whinging about is the structures, the numerous irregular rules, policies and it goes on and on.
A popular belief is that the comp provides a better pathway for youngsters to get drafted. Well I disagree..... yes it gives a 17 year old exposure, but any 17 year old that has good potential is already in the AFL academys.. The ones that are not, well they have a huge battle to get drafted ,yet alone make the elite level. The neafl comp is full of good young players that are 21 to 23 years of age, but will never make the elite level. The comp is also full of good players that are 25 to 28 years of age, that were never going to make the elite level as well.

Disgaree Stuy - just bc you are in an Academy is very different to having exposure. Yes, you will play at the National 18's carnival and hope to go well BUT if you don't then you need to show your wares at a senior level up here in a good comp that is rated by the recruiters. This means vs AFL 2's sides that have players already rated good enough to be "in the system". It also means vs very good senior players who are 25yrs old bc this is what the young fella will be up against next year if drafted, but only better. Kids arenb't drafted based on their performance alone at Nationals but on a whole season (or 2). I think you are looking for a pure football competition out of the NEAFL - well its not and never will be, not dissimilar at all to the VFL where the clubs who have 2's sides still going but their senior side has not made the top 8 will be also "pulling the pin" to a degree I imagine. Think you just have to watch NEAFL footy for what it is, a development competition in the main but also an opportunity for some blokes to ply their craft whilst gaining a good $$.
Go and watch the QAFL for a football comp that is in the main uncorrupted.

smy,
no probs with your comments. I obviously understand and are aware of what u are saying. My main point is the structure of the NEAFL as it is at the moment,,, and you for one , could not disagree its rules, regulations, policies, are all over the place. Its just not an even playing field so to speak.
And as of the QAFL, clubs in this comp. are being effected by the NEAFL s policies with players being called up to the NEAFL clubs when they have injuries, and vice versa on some occasions which creates a very unstable scenario as to a regular team on the playing field week in, week out.
I mean some players have played for 3 clubs this season,,,, now come on, get real, that's not the go for a club that has this player listed as their original player.!!
As a pathway to the big time, as I said , the best youngsters in the country are drafted by each AFL club, so whats left are the also rans where a minority of these young guys will earn the call up in the next season or 2.Most of these also rans are then based in the tier 2 comps be it in vfl, sanfl and wafl. And if these players excel in these comps, they enhance their chances of being picked up,. but if the same guys are for eg playing in the NEAFL, their chances of being picked up are much lesser.

stuyd1,
while I agree in most part with your comments above and also of those of smy1305, I think if you are good enough you will get picked up weather playing in Oodnadatta 3rds or the VFL - The Word gets around very quickly these days on good players with the amount of AFL forward scouts and observers not too much gets through the cracks (unless you are Mathew Payne - still scratching my head on why he was not given a go??????)
Being a good footballer is only part of the process of being picked up - this AFL system is a Union - Unless you are a stand out junior and getting plenty of possessions at the State Championships, you as a young bloke really need to know someone who thinks you are good enough, to then push you forward and sometimes keep pushing you forward. The amount of kids who turn into young men that miss out is vast, opportunity and luck is the key for any young aspiring AFL Footballer - If given an opportunity they must take it in both hands and work harder than they have ever worked and that player has a good chance - Once arriving if they rest on their Loral's and drop off their work rate or get the big head syndrome, they will mostly fail.

I still believe that the new still evolving NEAFL Comp is our chance (ACT, NSW, QLD & NT) to give our best kids in these regions this opportunity to get noticed playing in a second tier competition (without having to move interstate), with that, given a little bit of luck that someone may notice and believe in them enough for them to move toward their dream of achieving a chance to play at the AFL level.

For the rest of the guys playing in this competition (if it is taken seriously by all participants) it is also a way to play at a very high level against some very good footballers from within our North Eastern region of the country.

well Thunder sound confident.

of getting their arses handed to them.

from the NT News
"NEAFL operations manager Craig Millar, said it was unlucky for Thunder but stopped short of calling the ruling unfair.

“If Thunder had finished second it would have been a completely different ball game and thrown the whole scenario of who plays who upside down,” he said.

“It’s just a bit of bad luck they have drawn them.”

Last time Thunder played the Swans in Round 10 in Sydney, they only had three players on the bench after Lewis Roberts-Thomson was a late withdrawal and they couldn’t find a replacement in time. The Swans fielded 20 AFL-listed players and won convincingly by 67 points after leading by 93 early in the final term.

NT Thunder CEO Jarred Ilett said they will prepare for the final the best they can.

“We have seen Sydney at their best, and I don’t think that’s going to change. It is what it is,” he said."

Hey everyone. Although Queanbeyan is not in the NEAFL any longer some of you might be interested to know that tonight we announced that Kade Klemke is staying with us as senior coach for 2015. Major coup given the interest that was shown in him.

I posted at length a few weeks ago about our proud club. If you want to see why we are so proud see the video "90 years in the making" at: http://vimeo.com/m/104459272

Billy,
spot on mate... as ive said numerous times , if there is a gun out there with outstanding potential, regardless of what comp he is playing in, he will get noticed simply because of the talent scout system these days that cover the nation.!Yes some get missed, like u say for eg Payne... for whatever reasons , he hasn't been given the chance. Then one can look at the Zorko saga...... and look where he is now.!!
Once again, I say, I enjoy watching the NEAFL games, as it is of a very good standard, its just the way the comp is structured with so many rules and regulations that do not represent an even playing field for all clubs involved, and are completely different to other comps ,etc etc. U know were im coming from!
And come finals time, six clubs qualify, yet the finals series consists of 4 elimination finals , then a grand final.... finals series all over in 3 weeks!!I mean what a joke. Be it 4 local clubs make the final 6 and 2 AFL clubs. The 4 local clubs have to raise some 500 to 600k just to qualify to compete in the comp, and they make the final six , only to see the finals series is a sudden death if one looses... no second chances like traditional comps finals series. For me, this is just wrong.

Michael,

Very touching piece of history in this Video, great story of pride and history together put on tape to look back over when the club is 190 years old and even older - You and all of other Tiger supporters, I can see from this 12 minute history lesson to us punters and lovers of all things AFL should be very proud of what you have achieved in those 90 years - It is clubs like Queanbeyan who the NEAFL Competition will miss for the moment (I say the moment as I am sure that if thing change, we would all love to have you back in one day in the future) as your "PROUD" history is what all younger and fledgling clubs are striving for to build in all regions around the country. Well done and thank you for sharing this with us all - May the Queanbeyan Tigers AFL Club have all the luck it deserves well into the future and beyond.

stuyd1,

Yes agree again especially with your final point - lets hope that when the AFL revamp the NEAFL for hopefully the final time through the off season, that they take the current imbalance into consideration and unveil a more even and uncompromised competition for next season and beyond.

Gents there has never been a better time than now to be an u18's player with potential..the tac cup games plus the nationals gives great exposure..what is fact though is recruiters would much rather watch these players play against there peers more so than at state league level, hence why all these tac cup games are in the schedule..

Cracking game at esplen oval tomorrow only up against the swans v freo so expecting a great crowd

Dogwarna,

This format has not done much good for some of the Qld lads from the past few years - just look at the de-listings from this year alone = Kids who stared or played well against their peers for Qld but could not stack it up against the bigger bodies and more skilful players in the 2nd tier comps.

What about the Giants v Hornets on Livestream at around the same time ???????? Just because the Sharks are not in the NEAFL finals you don't have to drop off the comp so quickly Doggy Ha,Ha - You maybe right though on this, it will be a cracker down at Siderland.

If the Hornets get over the GWS Giants with their 15 listed players? and the Thunder fall to the Sydney Swans with their full listed out fit? Hey stop laughing - this could actually happen, then the Preliminary final for the QAFL could be played prior to the NEAFL Grand Final at Yeronga or vice versa with the NEAFL before the QAFL next weekend and the Women's league with all of their supporters could move to our other AFLQ venue, the Morten Bay Complex if they are still playing footy next weekend that is? This might make a few people happy or maybe not especially as on the Big Footy QAFL Site.

Or the unthinkable might happen where the Thunder beat the Swans and the Hornets get over the Giants then its on the Grand Final road trip from Hell - Play the Thunder in Darwin in September - OMG.

ha ha BB, I may find my way into Panthers coaches box today

THE BOYS FROM HORNET LAND - JUNIOR GIANT KILLERS THIS WEEK - SO DO WE FEAST ON ROAST SWAN OR PICKLED TERRITORY TRAVELERS NEXT WEEK OR WE I EAT HUMBLE PIE?????? BUT WHAT A RIDE AND FRANKLY I AM IN A WET BUT HAPPY SPACE AT THE MOMENT.

Bring it on - Some unfinished business happening next week - Will it be in Darwin or Brisbane? - This is the question - The WAY THE HORNETS PLAYED TODAY - I THINK IT WILL BE A BIG WEEK AT GRAHAM ROAD NEXT MONDAY - The Giants tried to muscle there way to the ball and fell on their butts - Aspley had more skill and more desire thanks to the lessons learned last year. Up early tomorrow for the drive home, so just one more celebration beer to have and then some sweet dreams about a top heavy Beanstalk and a pile of drunken Giants at the bottom of it.

I noticed on the GWS Thread that some posts are blaming their top ups - Hello the Aspley side is full of top ups - no listed players in this side who train 5 days a week under John Blair - Just a side of committed team mates and support staff who know how hard and cutting to the core it is as a group to lose.

Billybunter,
is great to see Aspley win today and move into the Grand Final eliminating the AFL ressie side.( giants)
Sunday sees the Thunder take on a full list Swans ressie side.( which for the life of me, is so wrong. They can have a full list against NT,and if they win, they cant have a full list against Aspley. Tough on the NT here )
Anyway, one would think the Swans will win and meet Aspley in the big one, where they will be restricted to 14 listed players . This surely must give Aspley a big chance at winning the flag, ..... plus we get to have the game in Brisbane.... I ve jumped on the Hornets bandwagon Billy.!!!!( just for the GF ,OK.)

NEAFL site just updated

Aspley v Swans Reserves
Sunday 14th Sept. 1.45pm
Graham Road

Grima,

Are you coming up? It will be a big day at the Nest, as I think (depending on the QAFL) the U/18 final will be on as the curtain raiser and our Junior ( something like 25 Brisbane AFL Junior Teams) presentation day is also scheduled for this day as well - Can someone ensure that the cellar is stocked for this day - All Swan supporters are welcome, just tell the bar staff to set an account up on behalf of the Bunter (Who ever he, I am is?????) If their is only three or four of you i am sure it will be covered - But the bigger the support the better for the Swans and then you guys can pay for us - Bring your best team as there is a lot of last years disappointment of losing to to the Lions that our guys have got pent up - We will see if a championship side will beat a side of champions at first hand - Good luck to all.
