100% agree in particular Kirkwood who shut down Clarke.

Have to say I was puzzled given the state of play in the first half that Clarke spent so much time in the forward line. When he wasn't at FF he was generally off the ground. Not sure if he was carrying an injury but I would have thought he should have spent time in the middle when they were barely in the the contest earlier on.
yeh good point. same with stiller- he spent a lot of time in the goal square. both didn't seem to keen to run or lead. best game I've seen Quade, slater and McCabe play this season. I have to admit I was worried with overs leaving, jaques retiring, Bryce knee that qbns backline would struggle this season but I have been impressed with how they have gelled and also seem
to have some depth

It's been a hard few years since the Gungahlin Jets entered teams into the Division 1 and Rising Stars competitions. Wins have been rare and the Jets no longer play Division 1. However, the Club has persisted with its commitment to a Rising Stars side which had its breakthrough win last weekend against the Tuggernong Hawks. I'd just like to go on record as congratulating the character of the boys and their support staff who, for the last couple of years, turned up to training and games despite enduring what must have seemed like a never ending series of losses. I can also only imagine how it felt to sing the team song after that game. Well done guys.

The Eastern rep weekend is 4 weeks after the northern one so i suspect the squad will be announced in around 4 weeks if the eastern team is to have the same preparation time as their northern counterparts.

My tips for this week are:
UWS
Broadbeach
Belconnen
Queanbeyan
Sydney Uni

I know its only early in season but this is what i think the squad will look like. i have probably missed a few players but off the top of my head.

Heres my squad numbered and in bold is my final team (i think a few players will get selected on name rather than form)

Eastlake:
1. Bruce
2. O’dwyer
3. Brabazon(if his knee is right by then)
4. Gumley
5. Van Muers
6. Gibson

Ainslie:
7. Crook
8. Paine
9. Tuohey
10.Walker
11.Heyne
12.Bennett
13.Horner

Qbn:

39.Barrett

That's much the same as any representative team FT222. It's rarely picked just on performance which isn't fair on anyone, those guys not picked who have put in the good performances don't get to test themselves at a higher level while the guys picked on reputation go into such games under prepared and look like second rate players.

sounds correct. don't get me wrong majority of the players deserve to be there but I guarantee all the ex-afl players have been picked in the team regardless of their form- even though most are guns.

Given our embarrassing performance last season I hope they pick players who are at the top of their game and make the game compulsory. For to long now our better players have pulled out for BS reasons. If the excuse is found out to be fabricated a 1 week club suspension should be imposed.

We are not playing in a Mickey Mouse comp here and we need to continue to build the NEAFL Eastern brand by putting out the best available side possible.

yeh that's the big one- making it compulsory. because last year was embarrassing !

Im with you ABH, i think the focus should be on picking the right players first though, if you don't have a squad who are going to be competitive and put the NEAFL's best foot forward then what is the point in saying it is a compulsory game?

Because if you make it a compulsory game then the right selected player will be happy to put their hands up IMO.

Who have the Eastern Conference got this year? The Northerners have got a tough ask against SANFL but the squad looks pretty decent. I was at the game last year and no doubt it was a oor performance by the east. no doubt the powers in charge would have reviewed what went wrong to ensure a better result this year

Do you reckon that our Eastern Conference might be narrowing the gap to the Northern Conference ? Qbn has had a couple of wins, Belconnen and Ainslie have both had wins and the Eagles nearly beat Southport.
And it's only week 6.

I haven't been around long enough to get a proper sense of cross-conference comparisons but the results seem to be looking promising for our part.

NT didnt get beaten in a crossover game however I would agree that the gap between Nth and East has closed. At least partially I think its because a couple of clubs up here are battling a bit financially and thus have had to reduce player budgets.

I was at Broadbeach-Ainslie yesterday and whilst the Cats switched off in the 2nd 1/4 and were disappointing, I was impressed by Ainslie who had strong bodies who had good skills and ran hard. They really made us pay and were clearly the better side. I suspect as usual they will be thereabouts at the pointy end of the season.
