grand final
mounties v thunder

Here is my slant on proceedings that could be.

Thunder - too good - yet to see them at their best
Vultures - hard last 2 games but showed their worth all season
Suns - unknown what they will do - have a crack or put cue in rack
Aspley - shown the fight through the year - two wins to make it
Morningside - to good a side not to be there - not sure for how long

Premiers - Thunder

Maurie, What do you think of the decision/requirement for the Mounties to play this week's home game at TIO in Darwin. Very costly I reckon.

Here's why: Mt Gravatt would be hot favourites to win this week if at Dittmer, and again next week vs Aspley. That would make them minor premiers and give a home 2nd semi after a rest 1st week of finals when everyone else is belting each other. Given that scenario they would most likely go into the granny straight up and being the first to qualify guarantee a Brisbane raather than Darwin venue.,

As it is NT probably win Saturday (given only lost once in 3 years there), minor premier, win 2 finals in Darwin and a premiers for the first time. Game Sat night should be a cracker and I am looking forward to watching on Thundervision, whilst the QClash is on the TV-footy heaven!

Another possibility that nobody has suggested is if Suns lose their last two (possible if they put the cue in the rack), and Redland, Aspley or Broady ( % needed as well) win their last 2 then the Suns could drop to 4th. Top 3 not quite settled-plenty to play for.

Who knows what will happen with the teams fighting for 4th and 5th. It is great that every game is relevant.

they won't be playing the grand final in darwin

Redland and Broadbeach to make up the final 5 Now I will make a huge call here,,,, but not impossible, based on the form of these 2 sides.....And that is a Mount Gravatt vs Broadbeach grand final....call me stupid.... yes, but I think there is a chance of this happening. And if it doesnt get near that, then I eat humble pie, such is the closeness of the competition. All in good fun.

After missing 3 weeks with injury and playing on permit for Palm Beach where he kicked 12 goals, Fults was named to come back via the magoos last week.He refused to play magoos thus his non appearance last weekend.Tense situation at the club now with this issue.Yes no player is bigger then the club, and must be dissapointing for all concerned. Hope they can sort it out.

Gee whiz - one of the worse situations i reckon for a coach - personally I'd piss him off but can understand why they might not.

Spot on smy1305. very delicate situation. i can see both sides of the issue. Firstly by the player, has ledgendary status at the club and his form this season has been excellent...,went out of his way to get some match practice with Palm Beach whilst Broady had the bye, where he kicked 12 goals. But the coach and club playing policies and the fact that they have won their past 3 games without him and the long term plan of changing the culture at the club which is proving a success for the club, justifies their decision.
My opinion; A hard decision, but I think they should of included Fults, even starting off the bench. He is as fit as, has played some good games this year and his experience is invaluable on the field.
Anyway, we will see what happens this week hey.

Think the Vultures are travelling well and they are looking the goods. the decision to play a home game in NT though is nuts and I dont agree with it. At the start of the year, the lure of a few $k to sell your home game may have been enticing but at what cost....If we win the game we can go top - a massive advantage - and if we were at home I reckon we would have been a huge chance. Now in NT - well its just bloody hard as thier home record shows....reckon a few of us would have tipped in the $ to keep them at home!!

Anyway....we will relish the challenge!

ask the players if they wanted another home game at Dittmer Park with tiny rooms, cold and maybe wet conditions and on a hard bare ground or an exciting trip to the Territory in beatiful dry conditions, the opportunity to bond with their mates over the weekend, and to play at a facility which is AFL standard and I know what the majority will say.

All visiting teams love the opportunity to travel and it is a big plus for all those who play in the competition. It is a great concept and most players love it !!

Hi Doc..I hear what you say...but I reckon any short term enjoyment, bonding, warm weather experience, etc would fall well short of the excitement, and the sense of success that each player would feel - not just for one day but for a lifetime - if they were to win a GF. Giving away a home game to NT, in my opinion, just makes the challenge a bit harder. You have to remember that NT have all advantages up there - no travel - own rooms - big crowd, etc. Down here they hopefully get cold and rain and are outside their comfort zone. We have given up more than a home game - we have given up significant advantage. Opportunity lost for mine.

Maurie,
You forgot one other very important thing in the sceme of things - being the social type of side the Vultures are win, lose or draw - this game along with the after match activities might be hard felt, not to mention along with the travel on the older bodies the week after when they play the team that has seemed to have troubled them this year in Aspley (a 2 point loss away and an 8 point win at home), this game is shapping to be the last round blockbuster on the final Sunday of the home and away season but almost dependent on the Southport V Aspley game this Saturday.

i think most clubs keep a tight grip on the players post game now in darwin.

A Season defining round

Bris Lions Res v GC Suns Res - reckon Suns are still fair dinkum
Aspley v Southport - and Aspley exit the 5
Mt Gravatt v NT Thunder - Vultures to top spot
Morningside v Redland - Morningside to 5th - Redland out of 5
Broadbeach v Labrador - Broady jump to 4th.

Lions (all betting should be suspended on this game !!)
Aspley (who would know - Shir is badly missed but Southport have had an ordinary season, despite their recent form)
Mt Gravatt (my kiss of death), only ever beaten Thunder at Alice and got flogged at Dittmer Park last year by Thunder (Thunder's only win in Qld !for 2010)
Morningside
Broadbeach
