anyone know if you can take a bag into metricon or is it strict like at the gabba

You can take a bag, and your own food, but limited to a quantity for personal use.

The security are pretty good there, as they are at the GABBA.

i won't be going to melbas. it will be walk, train, bus to the game
An absolute joke to play at this time for a semi final at this level.Geez I cant believe it. Once again, no exposure to the general public for this league. I mean, the home and away games attendances are pretty poor and the lack of media promotion is not helping.Every qld club needs growth in their supporters base which obviously raises revenue if these supporters attend the games.

On the topic of the Suns and Lions with how hard they are trying to make it deep into the finals, what would happen if the competition started a week earlier? Would that mean those clubs might make more of an effort seeing as though they might want their team playing throughout?

Might not work, but maybe it would??

Maurie or anyone that saw the Suns vs Mt. Gravatt on Sunday, what are your thoughts on the result. Suns 3 goals up at half time, and then belted. Was it that the Vultures just broke open the game or do you think the Suns gave up/tanked as some people have said.

Start time has been moved forward to 9.10am.Does Melbas do brekky?

Chikka, Smart move from the NEAFL/ AFL admin here (you lucky beggars), the 9.10am start might catch the Panthers on the hop and give the young GC Guns I mean Suns an edge on the finals specialists.
Can't imagine to many of the Panther boys would be used to getting up at 6.00am or earlier to play footy on a Saturday morning (you might need to get some of the under 8's players down to training to give them, the boys some tips on how they do it).

This might be a bigger test than most think for you guys - just like a trip to Darwin but in reverse, the old body clock plays weird games on the mind and body when it gets moved around and 9.10am kicking the dew off the ground in a knock out final is some moving, Dr. Phil Jauncey might be needed at Esplen Oval next week if your guys can stay awake long enough to firstly win on Saturday Morning (the game should be over before noon) and then secondly train on next week.

The NEAFL plot thickens, just when you think its smooth sailing, some one serves up a curve ball and no one see's it comming. Suns might have been at big odds after last week's mauling but this might bring them back to an easy even money bet?

stuyd1,

It is not in the AFL's interest to promote the local state leauge competitions any more than they have too - take the SANFL for instance, the local punter has worked out that they can go to a game of State Leauge Footy in Adelaide pay $5.00 to get in watch 3 grades of footy colts, seconds and seniors at a level not far off the big time, with no 50 metre penalties (just 15 metre ones) and the players earning their kicks the way it used to be. Our game born some 150 years ago is getting softer every year with more rules developed to keep the soft ahtletic fast running types playing.

I used to love playing the game firstly against real men and when my body gave up then going to the footy and watching the same and younger real men playing our game, earning their hard won kicks and free kicks each week, but now its like going to the netball, some time I think the Firebirds play the ball harder.

The best thing that Andrew D and the AFL Admin has done for me is sell the total veiwing rights to the Media - now I can go to any of the local NEAFL games which take my fancy each week and have lunch and a bet, enjoy a good standard of footy then go home take a cold $2.00 beer or 10 out of the fridge and heat up a $2,50 four & twenty or two in the oven and switch the channels and find the best game offered.

I used to be one of the first people at the Gabba each week, not any more as they the AFL are killing the game each year with soft rule changes and killing the crowd by overcharging for no entertainment the Gabba does not even have the Lions Reserve's playing on their home ground, some of their listed and rookie players have never had a home game.

Bring on the last 4 NEAFL finals as I cant wait for it to crank up again next year bigger and better than in 2011.

I'll be going, more than likely make my own way down of course. Might have to learn how sew my 2 morningside shirts together for the day

ives might get drafted, who knows. The young kids for aspley were good again. As morningside. The old heads were clearly best for mine. Lillico and gough kept them in the game and clarke is probably playing his best footy. Morningside were too good

Is certainly one of the more favoured lads to do so and has been on the radar for a few years.

Agree - very tough on players and clubs alike. You spend the year playing at probably 1 or 2 times of the day and then at the most important time of the year players are thrown a spanner.
The PHC clubs experienced this first hand a few years back when the league in their wisdom felt that they should play curtain raiser to the Premier Division (at the time) comp. Was dead set ridiculous and feel sorry for the fans of the Panthers.

Snorkle - we haven't agreed much lately but 100% concur - going to the Gabba has far more attraction 12hrs prior to actually being there and soaking up the appalling atmosphere that is generally dished up. Would prefer to spend $250 return and go and watch 2 Vic sides slog it out at the G TBH. The local footy provides laughs as well as the same highs and lows that you get from any match. A good days entertainment, especially if you have a young fella or 2 to drag along!

Any club will get up for a final even if it is a midnight start.

Chikka,

I noticed by the time of this post above that you are in training already for the early start. Good luck mate - Just think its unfair for the boys and the supporters to start at 9.10am on a Saturday morning. What time are they playing the 2's game 6.00am? Not a bad idea the Vultures seniors could watch the game and then go up to Darwin.

the game will be played in near empty stadium at the start. if it was played at local ground, which it should be, you might get a decent crowd in to watch some good football. but no common sense is used once again

i ventured out to esplen oval on sunday great game high pressure and skill level by both teams as well as a fantastic crowd. it will be a shame that GC V Mside cant be played at a NEAFL ground this week but it is what it is and apparently AFLQ have released 150 free tickets for supporters etc of mside.

Aspley had a good year and it is a shame 2 of their experienced players (Evans and Copeland) gave away multiple stupid free kicks at crucial times in the game this gave mside the momentum they needed to run over the top.
these 2 players also had a crack at belting the siders young blokes but didnt want to know about it when lilico, upton and co reminstrated. but all in all Aspley should be pleased with where theyre heading fantastic young group probably need 3 more guns to go all the way and perhaps time to move some dead wood on though.

Mside are a big chance to keep going all the way and are building every week they play, injuries to rodgers, kinch, holman, price, shelton, lawler and bonney (gough) throughout the year have allowd them to play bell, allen, starcevich, yagmoore and mollison (all under 20) for consectutive weeks and these kids will complement their senior personel the deeper they go into september.....

they have probably put it on at metricon. thinking if we give away a few tickets to this final. they will buy tickets to the suns game. that's what it's all about. just to get people to go to see the suns play in the afl. this is nearly as bad as the day they had all finals on at the same venue the day before fathers day 6 years ago

Well said!!!!!!

A couple of people have already said it but NEAFL games are generally better entertainment than AFL in my opinion. It is cheaper, you don't have the hassle of getting to the ground, and the results this season can go either way as all the teams were pretty even. 80-90% of AFL games the winner is already known before the game starts.

Other things like kicking the footy on the ground at halftime and listening to the coaches at 1/4 and 3/4 are good too. At most grounds you can easily pop in and watch the AFL on TV during halftime as well.

Style/standard of footy wise AFL has guys like Buddy that are clearly more spectacular than Ewing or Muggsy but the NEAFL is now a standard that is pretty good to watch with quick ball movement and tough contested footy. The AFL is better than a few years ago with that flooding boredom but I have found several AFL games this year pretty hard to sit through.

I would prefer the game this week to be at a NEAFL venue but I can see logistically with the the Suns seniors playing at home that Metricon is the way to go. Morningside can make a GF I reckon.
