You wouldn't agree to have a meeting if it wasn't true.

I was looking forward to a nothing trade year. Now there will be 1000's of trade scenarios thrown about for the next month or so.
Why not? If there is confusion about what is said or what Lachie is thinking, why not have a meeting with the right people to discuss it and then plan a strategy to release to the media and set the situation straight?

Easy to spin that the other way too. The only team of note we beat with him was Geelong.
We were 1-4 against the top 6 with him.

I don't think it's controversial to say that Neale was a shadow of himself at times this year, given his injuries and recovery from them. It was quite obvious that he was playing through niggles at times and was hampered compared to last year, so yep - our record with him is not going to be great. But I don't think the famed 7-0 figure inspires any degree of confidence on closer examination, and those using it to convince themselves or others that he can be replaced or that we'll be as good without him are fooling themselves.

Have just read a quote from Mathew Pavlich saying there had been "noise" for some time about Lachie wanting to return home, for what that's worth...

I agree with all of this but also am of the view that we might have gone as far as we can go with him. Which is a good spot to be in - home finals and always a chance of pinching a flag, but continually shown up in the middle against the very best teams. That's not his fault and there is no guarantee we could even pick players half as good as him with early picks, but it does make the possibility of rebalancing the list and identifying Clug as the main man somewhat appealing to me. I expect him to have a bounce back next year and really help fremantle.

In my mind he's gone already so good to focus on what we can do proactively. I don't expect the club to have the same attitude but it would be nice if we can get working on our alternatives and hit the ground running rather than get involved in a protracted stalemeate until the last day of the trade period.

For what it's worth, Lachie has said for a while now he wants to end up back in Perth. Thats the " noise" Pav is talking about. That doesn't mean he wants to pack his bags now and exit Brisbane immediately.

Ultimately, losing Neale isn’t great and I’ve never once said otherwise. I even said that a fit and firing Neale makes us better. But your direct reply suggested that you interpreted my post as if the ‘famed’ 7-0 figure is the main point of it, and by quoting that snippet of my post, you’re making it look like that’s what I was posting. All I’ve done is clarify that it wasn’t the case.

Journalism type of stuff.

Which is the likely line to come out of the so-called meeting today. Having said that, it could still happen that in the wake of our finals performances generally we might bring the idea forward and look at our trade/draft options. He won't have more value than he has right now.

And maybe by going early while we still have a two year contract is helpful to us. But surely he would have talked to the club.

Replacing him with a free agent and getting a discount on Ashcroft next year could really help setup our list for the post Neale, Lyons, Zorko, Rich, etc. era

WHERE THE HE'LL IS THE CLUB ANNOUNCEMENT?

Clearly a looonnnngggg meeting, which makes it even more interesting. My take - we were blindsided and are trying to wrap our heads around what we are hearing.
ease up.... Felons brewery have good pizzas and beer on tap. Enjoying the breeze there they are.

David King has just said we don’t hold the power in negotiations, I think we should just accept it then and give him away for peanuts…. David king is so well regarded, it would be hard to go against his opinion 😂
Yeah,
it's not like he has a couple of years remaining on his contract or that those two remaining years could be the last two years of his prime.

I think it is a big loss but not an irreplaceable loss. I have liked Neale since he was a docker and always thought he was underrated until he made a name for himself with us. Having said that he isn't a prime Fyfe, Danger, Martin or Cripps who are IMO so much more versatile and relied on by their team. If we can pick up a good free agent replacement which sounds likely and a few decent picks we probably end up in front tbh.

He's got 2 years of his contract left, he is your best player & you are still in the premiership window. Unless you get offered way overs in terms of a trade (I doubt Fremantle will do this given their commitment to rebuilding via the draft) then he should be retained at least for the next 12 months.
King is talking bs if he doesn't think Brisbane hold the power. Dunkley was kept to his contract by the Dogs last year because Essendon wouldn't offer 2 first round picks & Neale is far better than Dunkley.

Not always bang on but thats the facts as I know it right now.
I still think the club should consider a trade if there is a good one to have. Lachie is closer to the end of his career but his value could be worth cashing in on.
Must admit while I rate Lachie and would be happy if he decided to stay, it is a chance to progress our midfield to develop some more two way run, we are a definite top six type side but really want us to be able to take that next step.
