Hey. It's just footy. He's just one player. Whatever happens will happen and all the speculation or inside knowledge means Jack really.

Everyone's taking this too seriously.

I'd love him to stay on with our team because he's our best player. But if he doesn't someone else will be our best player and opportunities arise for others.

Let's just sit back and see what the outcome is.

but then what would be the purpose of bigfooty if we can't have the same conversations over and over until the trade period is done?
Big thumbs up from Chief for the circular arguments

This thread is very much a true revealer of character and personality. Fascinating really. From the Henny Penny's, to the the mind-readers to the zen masters. Talk about a broad church.

People reach different stages in the grief process at different times. Some are still on denial, others have moved onto anger today. A couple have accepted.

Caro who is the most spot on journo, lets face it - just said she thinks he will stay now.

I think it's leaning this way.

Dust has settled. Reckon they have spoken with the family, realised they will gave support, spoken to the club.

Reckon he stays and has a big year next year on the back if this.

Happy if so.

I think there is no reason all things Mighty Lions has posted cant be true
  • Neale and Jules always intended to get back to Perth at some point (likely post playing career)
  • Neale loves playing here with the Lions
  • Jules loves her place her in Brisbane (apparently this is true as I have heard it spoken about second hand by people who get their hair cut by her)
  • Neale and Jules have become increasingly concerned about covid restrictions/lockdowns in the future - snap lockdowns/AFL isolation bubbles might become difficult for a mum by herself with no other supports. Neale wonders if he should get back to WA for his wife.
  • Neale asks his manager to see if there is any appetite from Freo to entertain a trade back - someone on his team/Neale speaks with Longmuir as well
  • Freo has many loose lips as they ponder the Neale trade (Im guessing captians, players in the leadership group, coaches etc were probably asked about their input). Neale/Jules family could also be aware this is a possibility
  • Someone leaks it to the media and they sit on it until the Lions exit
  • In the meantime Neale is still working out if Freo is an option for him or not
  • Lions get blindsided because Neale hasnt actually formalised anything yet so hasnt spoken to anyone yet. Gets called into a meeting. He is given the chance to ask for the trade but he hasnt decided anything yet. So the club gives him and his manager sometime. Neale says he is doing it for his wife (but that may mean he is worried about her being isolated rather than Jules demanding it).
  • Neale and Jules are getting monged in the media by everyone. The overall narrative being that he is a mercenary.
  • Neale's dad has come out to defend him
  • Neale and Jules are trying to figure things out amongst themselves/with the club re support vs with their manager/Freo re trade
Who knows when the final decision will be made. Personally I am happy with either direction. Neale staying will keep us going strong for another finals push. Neale leaving will mean he knows Freo will pay up so we can reinvent our midfield and draft some future talent to keep the list going well into the 2020s.

He's very tight lip. Don't know how she could get that outcome

I'd love it if he stayed. Would be fantastic to troll every Freo gamethread when they lose. 28 year old Brownlow medalists are too trash for their team apparently.

Totally rational. Baffles me when people instantly want to assume the worst of people.

pah, there's no room for nuance or rationality here in the lead up to trade week. Especially with the hunger of both the reporters having an opinion, and clubs leaking to the media.

Could all be true.

But you don't innocently look to break a contract and do enough to have it leak and cause the shit storm he has, if you're happy and not desperate. He is engaging Freo during a finals campaign, but not desperate? The whole progression of your dot points don't really make sense.

Also, what is Jules (who I really like BTW) going to say to the Girls at the saloon knowing how high profile she is and gossipy people would be about what she says? 'uggh we hate it here and Lachie can't wait to get traded back to Freo'.

So he stays. How inconsiderate of him He could have at least waited until I have gone through the grieving cycle. Bloody hell I'm gonna be stack in denial forever.

We really don't know to what extent he enacted this trade scenario. He may have been Machievelian and ploted this trade to coincide with his salary. He may have been having secret long chats with Freo and gastro may have been a ruse. I recall he also had chats with Fagan whilst Freo was up to play us when we first poached him from the Dockers.

He may also have just noticed his wife struggle through pregnancy, feel guilty about living in AFL quarantine bubbles etc. He then shoots a message off to his manager. His manager contacts someone from the Dockers. They may organise a small facetime meeting (I think bubbles restrict face to face) just to feel out Neale and his reasoning. Everyone is still non-commital as the Dockers are set on the draft and they know he is going to cost the farm. The Dockers would also have to work out their cap as well (guessing Brayshaw/Serong/Darcy would need money saved for the future). Someone from the Dockers leaks it to the media that Lachie Neale is speaking to them. Suddenly an article is written that he is expected to request a trade despite Lachie not really sure this deal can get done.

I'd wager its somewhere in between and we wont ever know unless Neale publishes a biography. I think if he was already set to go and the discussions with Freo were very advanced he would have already requested the trade when he had the meeting on Monday. I'd say everything is a bit premature on Lachie's end and he hasnt worked out if he can even get to Freo before he asks for the trade. We will probably find out at the Best and Fairest. This week would have given him some time to chat to the Lions re next year and support for his wife. If he hasn't committed to the club by then I think he really wants the trade and the only thing holding it up is Freo not sure they can get it done.

Didn't she also say that Lachie's end of year interview withe Fages as all players are going thru at the club is tomorrow?

Perhaps we'll know more by tomorrow one way or the other. Will be funny if he says he's staying and this thread was for nothing lol.
