I wonder if he’ll keep his VFL number or get a new one.
Ned is one who could be straight in on Friday. Not as if he needs to learn the system, with Pendles out I say bring him straight in.

Now name how many of those had 21 touches (14 contested) and 7 clearances in about 50% game time of a grand final ?

Sier is a could have been ... Those guys you listed never were

I have a soft spot for that big, flawed, lump of a lad.

The Bear copped a lot of criticism for his attitude but he had a hell of a lot more talent and impact than his contemporary Cal Brown and our current equivalent, Fin Macrae - both of whom have benefitted from far more patience and leniency because they were/are seen as highly professional and good guys, despite lacking any truly elite skills or attributes.

I think Fly would have gotten the best out of The Bear. He would have embraced his quirkiness and found ways to accentuate his positives and lessen his flaws. Alas, we’ll never know. But the legend of The Bear will live on!

I actually had a phrase pop into my head the other day and wasn't sure whether I had heard it before or how it came into my head, but I like it

"Talent alone may get you on to an AFL list but adding commitment and dedication may then get you a fulfilled AFL career."

I am sure that phrase has been used many times, in a roundabout way, in reference to many sports people.

Yep, The Bear did himself no favours on that front and I understand (with sadness) why he was cut. But what I don’t understand is why we persevere for so long with low-skill but earnest, hard-workers, who will never be capable of moving the needle on team performance. For some reason it seems to take us 5 or 6 seasons to work out that they’re just not good enough. We need to get much faster at trialing unproven players and making the keep/cut decisions.
