I feel sorry for any kid that gets recruited to this clubWTF do the coaching team want this kid to be? Is he a gut-running high possession midfielder? Is he an in-and-under extractor that dives on the ball and handballs to an outside runner? Is he the outside runner or a 1-2 link up man? Is he a defensive high-half forward? He has a different role every week.
No wonder nobody outside the club knows what his best role is because the AFC has not had a single *en clue since the night we drafted him. He's not going to make it as an AFL footballer playing a different role each week and he just isn't developing any damaging attributes under our coaching team.
It would be best for both parties, particularly Ned, if he was to ask to be traded to another club that has some idea how they would use him. He's a good kid and he deserves a real crack at an AFL career but if he stays with us he's going to end up as the next Sam Kerridge, wasting his best years before getting traded for a nothing pick and steak knives to another bottom side.
Other than elite endurance I can't say that I've seen any AFL list qualities in him let alone those you'd spent a first round pick on. It's quite mystifying. Not really sure what qualities the recruiters ever saw in him tbh....
What are his attributes?
Has he been played in the centre as a clearance player? No he hasn't so the point of anything is mute. Move Berry forward for pressure, he's to poor a kick to be a good midfielder. Let Ned loose at the contest!

I think once Parnell has done a couple more prereasons in the gym he can play HB or Wing as well.I think Back Pocket/Small Defender is his only hope.
But after last week Parnell is now our best proposition there. He beat and frustrated Ginnivan and has fae bettee Footy IQ and skills than McHenry.
We have two potential elite SF/Mids in Rachele and Sog. So why waste team space on McHenry in this role.
McHenry has physical toughness and that is it.
Really don't see why Nicks likes him so much.

I don't think he's tough. He throws himself at the player and ball in a clumsy manner injuring opposition players. He's also a player that can't win the ball and would prefer to sweat off the opposition so he can tackle them. He also gets flicked around like a flea. Nothing against the bloke but desperate with no effect is more apt. Berry, Soligo, Laird are tough.I think Back Pocket/Small Defender is his only hope.

It’s says it all that not one of his supporters can build a case that he’d hold any value on the trade table.Poor man's Riley Knight for a first rounder. Embarrassing really.
Our recruitment is the laughing stock of AFL.
We have too many of these kind of players.I

This goes for a lot of our players, but what is with this obsession the coaches seem to have with consistency? We’re three years into a rebuild and have the youngest team in the league. Consistency should not be our main concern. Players should be focussed on developing a skill set that can win AFL games, consistency will come with experience. Ned clearly right now does not have that, he started to develop it in the back end of last year, but we’ve not seen it at all this year. Instead of worrying about consistency the club should be looking to bring out some other attributes, maybe they just aren’t there, but it really doesn’t feel like he’s being pushed to do so.I just read the article on Ned on the AFC website. Ned was saying he needs to work on his consistency. Well Ned you've already got consistency.......
You consistently get caught holding the ball.
You consistently give away free kicks.
You consistently run around in circles like a looney chook with it's head cut off.
You consistently play like complete s**t.
Instead of consistency how about playing at least half decent football or GTFO.
We have too many of these kind of players.

Played a few good games in the midfield, in the carnival.LOL
Tasmanian Chayce Jones’ exceptional carnival saw him named in the midfield, while Brisbane Lions academy member Connor McFadyen and Mariners bottom-ager Mitch O’Neill were named on the interchange bench.Under 18 All-Australian team announced: Including Izak Rankine, Jack Lukosius and Sam Walsh

He had good mail on our selections it seems.I went back and had a look at Twomey's 2018 Phantom Draft.
The first time Ned was mentioned was at pick 19 which at the time of writing was our second pick. That means Twomey had no mail that Ned was on any other clubs radar before that. Here's what Twomey said about Ned
McHenry is a bundle of energy and enthusiasm and plays his footy in the same spirit, always in the thick of the action and involved in the game. He will probably be picked as a small forward to start, where his tackling pressure and intensity comes through, but he has the tank and ability to play in the midfield and show his wares there. McHenry is tenacious and tough but will be a fan favourite. He's also a favourite of the Crows.
So unlike every other player where he talks about AFL quality attributes like kicking, footy IQ, vision, speed, contested marking, ball magnet etc, tenacious and tough, tackling pressure and intensity is the best Twomey could say.
The Crows liked those things, recruited him way too high and he hasn't been able to translate those limited skills to AFL level. We got what we saw at U18 level, AFL is so much higher than that.
I think Ned is a bust and can't see how he keeps getting picked. Another poster put up his numbers across a stack of categories that he is supposedly good at but the numbers don't lie, he's no where near the standard.
But the AFC should admit he's not making it in his current role, give the lad a chance, see if he can make it as a back pocket because that's the last option.
While we're at it, this is Twomey's take on Chayce Jones"Jones is a hardened, tough, reliable player who can be used anywhere on the ground: midfield is his go-to, but he can also be picked as a small forward or back. The Tasmanian enjoyed some good moments at the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships without starring" Does that get you enthused to use a pick 9?PLAYERCARDSTART1Chayce Jones

In Twomey's later picks section, for the Crows he said this "Will Hamill, a pacy line-breaker across half-back, could come into contention, while Lachlan Sholl, a smart accumulator with a big tank whose father Brett played for Carlton, may also be considered if they use later picks" How's that for nailing it? Got three of our four selections correct. We must be easy to read!
