There's actually some pretty handy sub 180cm mids running around every week in the AFL Jade Gresham, Touk Miller, Zach Merrett, Caleb Serong, Jack Viney, Lachie Neale, Dion Prestia etc...we'll never know if we don't at least give him a shot in there.
I agree. I would give McHenry and Jones both a good crack in the midfield for the remainder of the year. I don't think either are AFL standard but what have we got to lose.

Alot of the small guys you mentioned are supported by big bodied midfielders.

Neale - McCluggage - 185, Berry - 192, Lyons - 184
Gresham - Crouch - 186, Steele - 187, Ross - 187
Viney - Harmes - 186, Petracca - 187, Oliver - 189
Prestia - Martin - 187, Cotchin - 185

Bid bodied, tall midfielders should be our priority in the next 2 to 3 drafts (or at least were the midfield is concerned). No more sub 181cms.

Nowhere did I state any different just that there are plenty of 180cm and sub 180cm mids that go OK when given the opportunity.
I agree Ned needs a crack at playing midfield but it should be in the 2s. Berry and Schoenberg need the AFL mid time, Rachele if fit needs mid minutes I think. Pedlar needs a go in the mids in the AFL before Ned IMO.

Scattergun Harry has hardly set the World on fire at either level this season, in fact he's been a major disappointment from where I sit. Lacking composure and his kicking has been shyte generally.
A fair question is why has this happened. We see these lads come in Shoenberg, Sholl and even Rachele of late and they start so well and look good, good skills and then it seems to be like a balloon with a slow leak and they almost regress and lose the traits that made them look impressive in the first place

A laymans perspective would seem to be the coaching these guys are getting is not improving them. Obviously more too it, but what is it?

Harry has been disappointing this season but has shown promise before. Ned and Chayce have never shown anything since their junior playing days. If you want to call Harry a major disappointment and shyte fair enough but then that doesn't leave a lot of room in the vocabulary for what Ned and Jones are.

Both were good last year.

It's almost as if our player development is shite.

Anyone would expect a 4th year player to kick on from how he finished year 3.
Our development team and coaches has basically f**ked up every potential mid we have drafted lately and it seemed to accelerate when the likes of Godden and Hart arrived.
Like Schoenberg Ned has gone backwards and I have no doubt Godden screwed Jones up. Now none maybe world beaters but they have showed more than they are showing now.
There was a role for Ned to play high have forward and push up to the contest similar to Lambert and use his endurance but we seemed to have chuck that out the window.

Strange stat though given there's generally only a cm or so difference in height in the selected teams we've played this season to date and not always us that are the shorter. Via footywire's stats

And would you believe the tallest side we've played is the Kangas.
Its almost as if we decided to copy Richmond after the GF loss. They have a similar number of sub 180cm and same height as us.
Close to 2cm on most clubs so around 44cm in total in most games. If say 30cm is spread over 5-6 guys and 2-3 are mids then that's a significant difference.

How does that make this selection or what we are doing currently any better??

We are crying out for an explosive midfielder, a big body or a classy user and you're telling me we actually picked McHendry in the first round as a designated midfielder??

Shoot me now.
But how’s that Ned’s fault? It’s not like we missed any massive talents that went after him. He could’ve easily been a Taryn Thomas who has all the talent in the world but doesn’t want to be out there. You can’t knock Ned’s endeavour, and he does a lot of little things that other players don’t. I’m still holding out hope that the rest clicks because he’s a hard worker, and if it doesn’t, he’ll be a serviceable depth player in the coming years.

Has he been played in the centre as a clearance player? No he hasn't so the point of anything is mute. Move Berry forward for pressure, he's to poor a kick to be a good midfielder. Let Ned loose at the contest!

So finally we have a young mid who is starting to get the ball, getting clearances, elite tackler and you want to move his to the forward line?

Move Berry to insert McHenry because Berry can't kick? Have you watched McHenry trying to kick over a jam tin?

Had an "almost game" which he seem to consistently do, he is getting to the right place which is why we are noticing all his stuff up but doubtful he can fix this since it look like a big trend in his game.
