What an absolute beauty of a game by the little man! His defensive efforts were excellent and he did make a fubble here and there, but his effort and the way he was able to set up multiple goals and give us an edge with Shaw in the backline really helped us over the line. Was second BOG imo and if he kicked that goal he might of won the medal. 28 possessions.

Reinvented himself. Go Neon!

Great game by Leon but it has never been about his talent (we all know he has it) but the consistency of backing up a great game with a somewhat similar effort the next week. If he can remain consistent for the majority of the year, I believe he'll have a bigger 'impact' than his All-Australian year.

You could see at the end of the game he was lively and happy about his game and the win, which is always a massive positive for a confidence player like Leon.

he was outstanding, channel 10 showed him in the rooms before the game and he looked very very pumped!! He was paying at $126 bucks for anzac medal and chucked a bit of money on it! Oh soooo closeeeee

I still worry when he has the ball deep in defence and when he kicks out, but I may have been a bit hasty writing him off last week.

I'd like to see him sustain that performance though.

Davis was really good in defense today. His body work was truly exceptional. I still shit myself when he gets the ball in defense given the risk he takes but I equally love watching it. His baulk, almost checkside, then squaring pass to Sidebottom in the last was poetry to watch. My only criticism is that he let Jetta off the hook I think in the 2nd which helped Essendon reign in the momentum. He was good defensively but this was a lapse. He needs to tighten up on this. It's the unfortunate reality of a defender that they just cannot afford these lapses else they, and the team, risk getting punished for it.

played an excellent game today, many tense moments where he stood up and took some great one on one contested marks....great to see him happy after the game, along with mick who would be wrapped....he is starting to show and prove his credentials as a backman, and also a versatile player when he went forward in the last and set up sideys goal

Leon showed today he can play down back. Awesome game today and probably has cemented his place for the rest of year. I was really happy for him and that lace out pass to Steele late in 4th qtr was vintage Leon. !!!!!!! :thumbsu:

Unlucky not to win the medal, but when you have someone like Pendles in your side, it is very hard to get over him.

Settle he still had 3 kicked on him

In a completely attacking sense very good, loose man work pretty good, permanent on a man not really.

Still prefer to play as a high forward wing ala thomas

Agree with all the above AND this was a big game, right? And we used to think he couldn't stand up in the big games, right? Well, wrong! He REALLY stood up today.:D

Very impressive game.

One-on-one body work was fantastic. We've all ben nervous about him in this regard but he stood up today with some exceptional and pivotal moments.

His baulk and then rapid-fire pass into Sidebottom in the last was awesome too when he had every right to have a ping at the goals.

Can definitely be a best 22 player if form holds up.

Looked settled, composed and didn't turn it over across half back. I don't think he was in our very best, but he showed his doubters that he deserves a spot in our side.

Dermie's ego knows no limits. He is still trying to justify his comments of Leon's first game 11 years ago and refuses to ever recognise when Leon plays well.
Freaking egotistical muppet.

Was a very good game from him individually. Not sure you would want him playing in defence week in week out. As others have mentioned his defensive work when he was on his man was fantastic. Won a lot of one on ones. He also was able to when playing loose get off his man and impact ground level and contests.

He did however give Jetta a lot of space who on another day may have hurt us far more then he did.

It was a fantastic game and the confidence that he got from it showed when he went forward. I think almost the most impressive thing he did all day was choosing to kick the ball inside to Sidebottom rather then try the banana after the baulk on the boundary. Great game certainly good to see him adding HBF to his belt, still not sure I'd want him there on a week to week basis.

He was back to his normal self today.

He needs to play forward against the better sides though.

This week Jetta could have kicked 4-6 goals on him, and had over 20 disposals, not good enough from a defensive standpoint.

Next week, Leon and Dick up forward, Ben Johnson back in a defensive role, PLEASE.
