The Press Release can come out anytime between now and when the game is potentially released (although it will most definitely be out by the end of next month and worst). Once that's released (and depending on when the games release date is) there will be a steady stream of screenshots and information. Regardless of a 2010 or 2011 release.

It's not like they're going to go on a complete media blackout (again) with absolutely no info or screenshots until the game is released.LOL yeah cause he's going to answer that now.
Well despite the quality they still count as a looking point to how Tru Blu work with their business plan and releasing games.

It should be noted though that NRL Challenge was only released in 2 states (NSW & QLD) and AFL Challenge (IIRC) was released in 4 (Vic, WA, SA, Tas?). So a slightly different situation there as they were being sold JUST for their certain markets. Both Rugby League Live and AFL 2010/2011 will be Australia wide releases.

incorrect. NRL challenge came out in VIC....not sure about other states it very well could have there as well. im pretty sure AFL would have been released elsewhere too

2010 Release

2010 Release
No way it will be a 2010 release. he says the press release will be in the next few weeks which would land is in the middle of the finals. That would leave us about a week or two if they were to release it grand final week which is the only date that would make sense business wise.

Press releases are often made months before the release of a game and IMO if it was going to be released this year the press release would have been released in July.

Game is way too complete for another 6 months of work, Ross said no more screenshots until press release, 2010 players/teams can all be added as DLC Looking like a 2010 release IMO but a 2011 release is very realistic as well and am not disputing a 2011 release.

2011. Possibly, but not likely, christmas 2010.

I feel sorry for big ant/tru blu having to repeat themselves over and over again to all these people sending emails who somehow think that they will be the one who gets the release date scoop.

There was a release date conjecture thread for this game floating around this board somewhere...

Dead horse has been flogged well and truly beyond death, I think it's beyond a pulp now!

The game will either be a 2010 or 2011 release. And I still don't get why or how anyone can possibly think this will come out at Christmas, that is the most idiotic time to release a game based on a Winter sport. It does not matter whether it's a game and that's when games can come out, it does not matter that if it were to be a 2010 release realistically that is the only other time it could come out. If Tru Blu want a game that will actually sell, then Christmas is NOT when this title will come out. Name me another sports title that comes out months after it's season ending? It's ridiculous, stupid and it needs to be stopped that people could actually genuinely think that will happen.

All I will say regarding a potential 2010 release is that if the press release is not out by the first week of the finals, then you will 100% know that it will be a 2011 release. This is not conjecture, opinion or guessing, this is fact as the game will not release post-AFL season as that is downright stupid. Who knows maybe HES/Tru Blu have idiots in charge and they will think that it would be right, but if they've been able to get a company up and running I would think they might have a bit more sense than most who like to rumour a release date.

They don't need secrecy and silence to announce that the game is delayed.
They don't need a press release to announce that the game is delayed.
Announcing that a game is delayed is not going to be done in the final press release before the game is released.

Does anyone disagree?

Wow......so far off the mark. Doesn't matter what kind of game it is, December is the highest selling month for games across the board on all platforms. Definitely not as idiotic as releasing in a few weeks from now like some are saying.

Oh and there are plenty of cases of sports games coming out after the season has ended.....but I see researching facts is far from your style :)

EDIT: In fact (again facts are something you should try out) December of last year holds the all time record for the highest video game sales month the industry has ever seen. Agree that at the start of the season next year is the best time but simply proving that a december release isn't as 'idiotic' as your previous post.

for the game to be 'delayed' it would need a release date

Provocative ill-thought out crap

Regardless of how well selling the month is, the game is still a small winter sport in the grand scheme of things and releasing it in the middle of the off season will result in very few sales.

In fact AFL 2005 was released in Grand Final weekend, yet that had very poor sales as people lost interest in it after a week.

If you're going to use facts at least use relevant ones

And the above has what to do with a december release exactly? Hrmmmmm....maybe leave this one to the adults d-kid. :thumbsu:

Regardless of it being a winter sport, it would definitely be under a lot of kids christmas trees if it was released in december.

EDIT: I'll just add again (as some don't seem to be able to read) that I do not believe this game will come out in december. 2011 is my opinion but I couldn't really care less when it comes out tbh.

How is the game a 'small' winter sport when it's largest demographic (and basically only demographic) is Australia, in which AFL is the largest sport in the country?

I was about to say the same thing. So many people live and breathe footy i am 1 of those. Talk about it at work talk about at training twice a week and then on game day plus watch AFL and the other AFL related shows. Then during the off-season everyone talks about trades and who is going to im prove. The down time of AFL is only like 6 weeks before pre-season starts for the AFL and i think in our league is only 3 months with jan the start of pre-season. So atleast 75% of the year alot people are involved in footy.

Because if the game is released right at the end of the season then it still is forgotten about quickly. While there will invariably be many Christmas sales, you cannot say that people who have a passing interest in AFL will be interested when it's not being played at that time.

Because you're comparing it to other sports games. Other sports games can release it off season because there will still be millions worldwide egerly awaiting the game. For this game there is a tiny market, and as such they must capitalize on interest when it can be sustained for many months.

I don't care when its released, i could make the lions have a semi decent season!

Jeez, what a terrible post. I thought you had more nouse than this.

There's plenty of cases of sports games coming out after the season has ended...yet you name 0?

Christmas is a big selling time for game, but these tend to be mainstream titles. You can't just put a title out around Christmas and expect millions upon millions of sales, it just does not work like that.

Why do you think sports titles DO come out every year at the starting point or VERY close to the start of the (biggest/main) season of that sport? Because that is when it's going to sell, because that is when interest, hype and exposure of said product is at it's highest and all that is needed to sell is peoples knowledge of the title and bang you get sales.

It is BEYOND idiotic to suggest that this title will come out at Christmas, BEYOND idiotic, I am re-iterating because anyone who suggests it clearly has no sense as to what hype and interest does to sales.

Putting this title - which has possibly the tiniest possible market of nearly any game worldwide - in a release timeframe that puts a title like Call of Duty: Black Ops (expected to sell AT LEAST 12 million copies) up against it would not bode well for an AFL title even if this WAS during the season.

Put the release when (for a fact) interest in AFL is at it's lowest and you can expect the single worst amount of sales ever for an AFL game and it could even potentially put the series under. I assure this. I mean take it this way, there are BIG titles that are running scared of titles like Call of Duty, GT5, LBP2 and Halo Reach that to put an AFL game with as I said such a tiny, tiny population to market to is literally death to a title let. These are titles that run on huge markets of potentially millions of sales and they're the one's running scared, compare that to one that would be lucky to pull in 200,000 sales and you might get an idea.

You might get all the genuine AFL die-hards saying "Oh but who cares when it's release, I'll buy it anyway" that does NOT equate to anyone outside of AFL die-hards buying this title. HES/Tru Blu are already expecting the die-hards to buy the title, are people that stupid to think they're not?

They want to put the games release in a timeframe to which they can achieve MAXIMUM sales and putting it just in a timeframe where games as a medium get sales will not work. This has to be put in a time when hype, anticipation, interest, popularity, exposure and marketing in AFL is at it's upmost highest is the ONLY time that this game can be released. Not just for maximum sales but so HES/Tru Blu can make money back and keep this franchise going, there's been millions (at a guess) put into the development of this title and if they're going to stick the release outside of the AFL season, well then they're as stupid as anyone suggesting that it could be a good date.

If you still think that a Christmas release date is in anyway a good idea. Take this little piece of info and think where an AFL game could potentially go considering it's small market. Ashes Cricket 2009 has sold JUST 500,000 copies over 3 platforms releasing to numerous countries. International Cricket 2010 currently has just over 60,000 sales released to (I'm not sure if it's exclusively or not) England and not yet Australia and England is considered a good market too. Peg this all back and consider Australia's tiny market and you might see that not only will the AFL title really struggle for huge sale numbers (no matter when it's released) but if you stick it when it's got more competition along with low interest in the actual AFL product as a whole and you might finally see that a Christmas release is a terrible, terrible idea (regardless of where your opinion lies, you don't argue the point if you truly don't care).

There's my research, there's my huge post. Done.
