Ngl I think it's pretty cool, they could have easily have been generic and used a boring American nickname but instead they're using something unique to Tasmania. I would much rather see a new team move in a new direction like this than pick some boring alliteration that has nothing to do with the location.

Should have called them the Maps

Probably an unpopular opinion but Jackjumpers might be the second best NBL identity after the Taipans, the NBL is full of terrible generic identities with little relationship to the city they represent.

Kings, 36ers, Bullets and Hawks are all NBA knockoffs.

Wildcats are a generic American high-school/college athletics nickname, which some would argue is inappropriate for a pro team.

Melbourne United might as well be "Melbourne Basketball Team", while S.E.M Phoenix is fairly generic and they both implicitly acknowledge the many defunct NBL teams that have played in Melbourne (United 'uniting' the fans of these defunct teams, Pheonix 'rising from the ashes' of the defunct teams). I'm not sure an acknowledgment of the NBL's struggles is the best cornerstone for an identity.

The Breakers are probably the best generic identity in the NBL, but it doesn't really have anything to do with New Zealand. One article alleges that 'Breakers' is essentially a tribute to the fast pace/fast break of basketball, which really could be used for any city.

Jackjumpers is unique, region specific and ripe for merchandising opportunities IMO. It may lack gravitas but I honestly appreciate sporting identities that don't take themselves too seriously, especially for expansion teams ("it's only game, why you have to be mad"). The Toronto Raptors were widely mocked when they were unveiled in 1995 (no relationship to Toronto, too childish, inappropriate tribute to Jurassic Park etc) and some 25 years later nobody bats an eye. I imagine the Jackjumpers will be similarly embraced as time goes on, so long as they assemble good teams, win over the locals etc.

I think the big thing with the JackJumpers name at the moment is that it's a mouthful to say quickly or when saying the names of two teams quickly. It's a very unique name and will certainly develop a cult following, and I wouldn't be surprised if eventually they're just referred to as the 'Jumpers' (seeing as it's much easier to say quickly).

Bit late to the party but I really don't see the fuss over the name. 'Jumpers' is a basketball related term, and they've just added Jack infront of it to make it locally relevant. It's simple but genius.

It's in the same vain as Seattle SuperSonics, they're usually just referred to as 'Sonics'.

Logo is okay, seen better, seen worse. But please don't tell me that is their jersey, how lazy.

I reckon the jersey shown was the JackJumpers equivalent of the GWS launch jumper

I have seen early designs of next seasons city sets. they were due to release in December but with the new nab season not starting until January at the earliest I am not sure when they will release.

I saw them nearly a year ago and I don't know what or if anything has changed but I can report what I remember if anyone is interested.

Whats your background? How are you aware of both the soccer and basketball kits?
