Where has a coach said he’s elite

Only the rumour mill of this thread at the moment, but hey, it's mid-January...that's good enough for me right now.

He's had a couple of puff piece articles and our ITK posters are reporting that he's going great. That's about as good as you're going to get at this time of year. It's the worst month of the year in terms of getting any news out of clubs or just footy talk in general.

Lighten up, just sit back and enjoy watching him develop when the season gets underway. Not long to go now!

Chris Scott was asked about him on radio ……. Was quoted as saying “we think he can play but unless he gets a haircut and drops the man bun we’re getting him on the next direct flight to Dublin”

Scott was also asked about his kicking skills. He was quoted as saying “what kicking skills - we needed run and carry off half back and that’s all we need him to do - just run and carry”

This is exciting to hear!

I have reservations though from when I use to have closer connections to the club and all the assistants were saying that Billie Smedts was the greatest thing they'd ever seen and would put money on him to win the NAB rising star if they were allowed.
Smedts was insanely talented but two key issues held him back. A series of injuries including that structural defect in his hip that needed to be corrected, and the unfortunate fact that he had his head up his arse pretty much the whole time he was at Geelong. It’s a pity that maturity eludes some longer than others, Billie clearly a late bloomer in that respect.

Oisin definitely does not strike me as a behavioural nightmare based on the media he’s done already.

I think the evidence that Mullin is mature is staring us in the face. He is fit. He had a year to think about the move AFTER initially deciding to. He didn't spend the last year hanging out at home, drinking beer, or whatever. He obviously worked out a lot. I bet he has a sherrin somewhere or did something to practice kicking the Aussie rules way. Check his computer history, bet there's a lot of viewing of AFL games. ;)
He's been the young player of the year, twice. I think he approached his Gaelic footy career in a professional way years ago. He takes it seriously and wants to make it a career wherever he ends up. I think that dictated he would be as ready as he could be.
And he is. :thumbsu:

Also being, apparently, a good bloke is all bonus.

Been told this bloke is absolutely flying. On track for R1 if he keeps it up

Cant see him playing R1 with the depth we have but he will get a game this year if he keeps flying.

Only a small thing, but he’s a sponsored athlete by Myprotein.com (a favourite of mine) and has been for some time. He’s a legit athlete which is great to see, and allows him to work primarily on his skills and learning how to deal with the physicality of the game.

It’s a welcome change. I remember watching the international rules years ago and the Irish boys looked like they had just rolled out of the pub in comparison to the AFL players. No such issues with Oisin!

He played Gaelic far more physically than most of them, generally choosing to run through players rather than around them.
He has the athleticism, build, strength, attitude and physicality already, he just needs the footy skills and knowledge.

Smedts had a slow start but did get his shit together....until he got injured (if I remember correctly) weeks later and that was his career done. What a shame.

Looking forward to seeing what Oisin can do for us. Very promising.

He is about to turn 23, was more than 18 months older than the "mature recruit" Harry Taylor when drafted (the second time), has been training with a 'professional' football team for years. If he isn't physically ready now, he'll never be. As for skills, ok, the oval ball is different, but it is still a ball drop to the foot while on the run style. Doesn't take a long time to adapt. Handball? Probably a weakness but the umps dont seem to care if you do it properly or just throw it, not major impediment. The biggest issue will be his decision making under pressure, wont know that until he actually plays a match. Might struggle going for any decent run with the ball, not really used to the bounce, but might get away with just touching the ball to ground. Possibly only needs a game or two in the VFL.

The biggest issue will be learning the nuances of a game with somewhat different rules and getting the ability to read the play unfolding before it happens (which a lot of elite players have). But i agree from the physical build point of view he is much more ready than most Cat Bs that start.

I agree... I'm just assuming the physical stuff will be all good with Mullin.

Learning to make the correct decisions and then executing will likely be the deal maker or breaker for him.

Baby steps though... Really looking forward to seeing him play but I gotta be realistic and not expect much at all in the early days.

Word on the street is that you can briefly see Mullin get a handball away in Geelong's latest Facebook post.

It may not be a goal from 60 out on his left or a 5-bounce dash down the wing, but I'll take it.
That handball is enough for people to think this guy is ready to break into not on a code he’s never played. But a premiership winning team.
All this without seeing any vision or game play by said person

Not true in my case.

I thought he was ready to do that before I saw the handball.

I had $500 on him for the Brownlow, but after seeing that partial handball (which I totally assume hit the target) I'm taking out a loan and going all in on a Mullin 2023 Brownlow.

The Loch Ness monster, the Bermuda Triangle, the identity of Jack the Ripper and then there’s Oisin’s kicking ability 😂
Is that Oisin kicking the ball in the background at the start of this video with Tanner Bruhn?????

Elite!

I can remember listening to that Tye Kennealy - the Irish bloke - premiership player with the Swans - after he had retired - years back i think he was on the ABC Radio as a commentator - thats where i think i heard him

He said his early games in the seniors Rodney Eade at a a h/time address would say stuff like - look lets not mess around - just kick it straight down the guts - and he didnt have a clue what he was talking about - ha - ha - ha
