Buckley conceded he contemplated accepting the Carlton number 16 Guernsey, made famous by his father in the late 70’s and 80’s, but decided instead to carve his own path, agreeing to wear the vacant number 7 made famous by current Carlton Coach Brett Ratten.

Raph got the #8 because he had always wanted it. Much like Sherman with 11.

This was about Vez though. I think that it says alot that he has been given such a low number. I'm not saying he is rubbish, just that he hasn't played many games or been talked about as a big part of the clubs future. This move goes against that trend and says, to me at least, that the coaching staff at the Dogs see something in him.

The way I think it is run is, aside from the #3 and #6:

Current players get a choice if they want to switch to a lower number that has come free (in this case, Hahn's 8 was)

Then draftees get a choice, in order of which they were drafted.
