The song was originally 'Son's of the 'Scray'. They changed it to 'the West' with the name change

Funny you should mention it, Bob Murphy has said the club should change the name back and the new home jumper screams our "Footscray", not Western Bulldogs.

West Melbourne is actually a tiny suburb of Melbourne. The western suburbs were the fastest growing part of Australia until covid. They are blending into far outer suburbs Melton into Bachus Marsh into Ballarat in regional Victoria, where some people were commuting into Melbourne pre-covid. Dogs hoping to represent these arrivals, but so are any club in Victoria. So West Melbourne wouldn’t work. New arrivals or youngsters don’t know or remember Footscray is oldies revere the name, and love the old Footscray town, but whatever helps the club move forward. I was adamant we got our traditional jumper back a decade ago and was so pleased when we finally won the flag it was in that jumper. Just imagine in 2011 we had just dropped down the ladder after 3 preliminary finals wearing a crap jumper and without hope, to end up a few few years later, with a flag in a beautiful jumper. All teams should have jumper that if they do win it, history won’t look back on it harshly, and this apply to clash jumpers because you never know who you might be up against?

The crest is bigger on the shorts than on the guernsey. The choices made by New Balance......not good.

Oh didn't know that since I don't live in Melbourne.
However my 2 cents - I love the nostalgia of growing up and hating Footscray. I get that in todays commercial world it probably won't ever return back but with the return of the bands (and removal of Robodog) I was secretly hoping the name would return too.
IMO it's no different to the return of North Melbourne from just being "The Kangaroos" (yuck!).

I can only assume they're wearing retails but these are so much worse than I could have ever imagined.
They literally look like a Bali knockoff, the fit looks absolutely horrendous. Almost like a Cotton On baggy singlet
