You get the rough idea though - like the logo itself isn't bad but the application, you know, the guernsey you're going to wear in the majority of the games, is trash. You don't need to be able to make it out from row ZZ of the 900 level, but on a shelf in Rebel Sport at the very least.

Finally had a crack at designing some guernseys with the new logo, the logo actually lends itself to a lot of really nice design possibilities so it's crazy how they ended up with what they did.

I came up with two different designs...

Short of it being just about the greatest sports logo ever designed, this is completely it. it's ****in shit. the logo is alright if it's just that – a logo – but it seems like everything was drawn backwards from a logo on a jumper.

The colours are rubbish, the song is worse, and the logo was of its time. you were never going to get that much freedom. but you could have given them an actual jumper design and I think most people would have gone 'not filling the potential, but it's not bad.' and the general footy watcher would have said 'not a bad looking jumper.' that's all they needed and they have ****ed even extremely casual onlookers over.

Honestly Gold Coast should have rebranded it in the style of the Galatasaray logo, but with a sun background slapping the GC on top, with the GC treated as a monogram. The new logo looks worse that it is red on the home guernsey - on red. It should have been an evolution of the guernsey they had: with red and gold becoming their traditional colours (the longer they exist, the more traditions they create). The Gold Coast Suns new logo looks like a surf brand, coming out of the 80s. Keep the official font, as it is an improvement from the old one. To be fair, the old GC monogram was going to be outdated with the style they have.

The home guernsey should be red with a gold GC monogram (like before), but changed to more like GC in the Galatasaray style (based on the Galatasaray G) and not the old Gold Coast style. At least they omitted blue from the home guernsey. Blue can exist on their clash guernseys (I know blue is one of their official colours, but it should never be a primary colour of theirs), but the Gold Coast Suns are a red and gold team.

It's still pretty much the same in every way:

Main colour is still red
Logo is still a round G monstrosity
The jumper is still red with the logo the focal point

What am I missing? They're still going to run into the same problem that it's an uninspiring and soulless identity

The Giants are pretty corporate-y too but they have personality as a team thanks to a mix of - their colours (orange is novel), the song, the players/history of actually being successful

If it were up to me - GC17 should either:

a) ditch the 'Suns' name all together - such a zzz & inoffensive team name, oh yeah we are near the beach so the big ball of fire in the sky is our name. Something with a bit of verve - a marine animal, nautical coded name like Gold Coast Pirates or Kraken, or a name actually pertinent to the area, Dockers are a great name for a team from Freo for e.g.

b) change the colours - if they insist on the Suns name ditch the fast food colours. Anything else - black and cyan/pink, literally anything else

I know this is the GC thread but man does that Crows logo stick out like a sore thumb. Gold Coast funnily has the opposite issue where it just doesn't stand out enough with the red on red.

The fact they’re using the gold logo on polos, shorts etc. means we’ll have an entire season of them highlighting their own stupidity before they change the red logo to gold on the jumper.

On the main menu for the round = red on white
Inside the match profile = yellow on red
On guernseys = red on red




On front page of website = use of red on red right next to yellow on red



Clash kit = blue on yellow

Some might call it versatility, but I call it inconsistency - it seems incredibly random when they decide which variation of the logo they would like to display. Have to assume they also have the option for red logo on yellow too which makes at least 4 different sets of the logo with no real rhyme or reason as to when each should be used.
