What did you think of the new technology that we were subjected to during the Channel Ten telecast of the Match at the MCG?

Several comments about the fact that it was very much out of focus particularly when we went from an umpires bounce - seeing how the grass is - to play - it was too fast and the camera was unable to adjust to give good focus.

It seemed to be more of "innovation" rather then technology that would be of real use in an AFL game - perhaps the only thing worthwhile was the camera on the goalpost - that would be useful in assisting the goal umpires - in any case they need to find something better than a 3.5kg vest for the umpires to have to wear.

What did others think?

At least they restrict testing these things to one-off events or the preseaon, imagine if 7 got their hands on the gear we'd be subjected to it all year.

Goal umpire cam wasn't as good as what the ABC has use in the SANFL since 2000 or 2001.

The ABC's is a lipstick camera that is attached to the cap of goal umpire. The channel 10 one was on the goal umpires shoulder and given the stuff they strapped to the his chest and stomach it obviously had remote control properties. Ch 10 probably tried to do to much with it's camera whereas the ABC keep it very simple and therefore only used to watch the ball in a close goal umpiring decision.

I like the central umpire cam, but not for live action more for review after an incident, eg Jonathan Brown going off at the ump when he picked up for a throw.

The runner cam was pointless. You're better off with a zoom and a shotgun mic. The bounce was a bit of a joke...

But stationary cameras anywhere are good value. I can't wait for the day we get a beautiful shot of a 60m torp heading straight for the goalpost camera, filling up the screen, and and then static as it smashes the camera to bits...the last thing recorded in slo-mo, filling up the screen, was "Sherrin"...!

yeah, the goal post one is worth a look at. it happens at least once a week where we are unsure of whether the ball crossed the line.

at least it gives a bit of insight.

the umpire one was shit, also it made them look like ________s.

the ump one is stupid, get to see the side of their face, great for viewers..

agree that the G Post one is worthwile for the line ball decisions

Goalpost camera - useful
Goal Umpire camera - complex - SANFL/VFL one would have been adequate
Runner/Field Umpire camera - pointless
Interchange camera - probably the best of the lot
Interviewing with the coaches - wouldn't happen in the home and away, so it's good for a once off.
Not showing the team song/interviews - pathetic
