Is JFM's technique bad? To me it seems alright to good, he just lacks any sort of desire to bat longer than 4 overs.

He swings like a rusty gate and cannot keep good balls out or construct an innings. He's an exact example of why IPL money is bad.

As good a thread as any to post this:

It contains a link to today’s Grandstand but no time stamp for the interview in question.

sounds like a "he said/she said" (so to speak) argument about the version of events for NSW picking Zampa in the Shield.

That is interesting. Sounds like CNSW are throwing Zampa under the bus a bit too. It is a bit hard though for those guys to play Shield cricket. How many shield games have the likes of Maxwell, Stoinis, M Marsh, Finch played in the last 10 years? Do they want them to turn down ODI appearances so they can play shield?

FWIW I thought T Sangha bowled poorly against SA in his last match.

Stuart Clark being a selector, commentator and Cricket NSW director is a hattrick of conflicts. He should have one of those jobs, but not the other two.

According to reporting in The Australian, Zampa lives in Byron Bay. So this would be why he doesn't play Premier Cricket and is probably why he has not played a FC match or been to training in a while.

That and he's shit in the format.

If he wants to live in Byron he should have switched to Queensland, or at least work out a way to play in the QLD Premier comp. He could easily play for one of Gold Coast, Beenleigh, Ipswich, or Redlands.

Joe Daniher managed it for several years.

Zampa obviously does not care (and hasn't cared) for a number of years about long-form cricket unless the red carpet is rolled out for him.

Remember how Shane Warne wanted to make a comeback, but through the IPL and County Cricket? CA said no, he had to play for Victoria and perform well. Yet here we are...

One thing I've noticed being involved in my son's junior cricket is that it still seems to be very much a "two culture sport". The kids are almost all either White Anglos or of Subcontinental background.

I don't know if there just hasn't been enough reaching out to kids of other backgrounds, or they're simply not that interested in cricket.

But it's going to be a bit of a restriction on the talent pool coming through if only a few different types of people are interested in the game.
The families who arrive in Australia from non-cricket countries - Africa, eastern Europe, Middle East, South America, eastern Asia - will gravitate towards what they know - typically soccer and basketball.

My experience is that they like trying cricket (and all sports really) but it takes a lot of investment from paid cricket association development staff to get things up and going.

There's a lengthy process that needs to occur, with the first couple of steps driven by paid cricket staff and the latter steps at the discretion of families and outside of cricket association control.

First Step
Sample the game at school
Enjoy the game enough to play it at recess and lunch of their own volition

Second Step
Choose to represent the school in competitions and carnival days

Third Step
Want to play the game at a club

Huge Jump
Parents to be willing to sign them up, take them to trainings/matches, buy equipment

The States have steered away from fanning these flames from my observations. Simply put, it's too much work to generate a cricketer from a non-cricket background. The same with children from low socio economic areas or from rural areas.

There was a phrase used "low hanging fruit" that encouraged States to channel resources into achieving the easiest numbers.

Rich suburbs, kids who already are familiar with and like cricket. That's where the easy numbers are and States get more bang for their buck there.

Often the "non-traditional markets" are handballed to one staff member who has that as a portfolio. Instead of all development staff having growing the game in non-traditional markets as a KPI.

An extremely regressive approach imho. Short term thinking.

I saw a great presentation from a child (now adult) of Italian migrants who pointed out that his parents had many positive experiences with cricket at school in their first impression of Australia. PE lessons, clinics, carnival days, recess & lunch. They didn't play club cricket themselves but they knew what the game was and liked it.

Fast forward a generation and their children play. The parents are happy for them to play the sport because of the groundwork done in the past.

Are we doing that work now?

Why is he contracted with them then? Surely part of the contract is attending training when available to do so.... Sounds like a bit of a messy situation. Or in the case of being CA contracted* there's conditions in that to attend state training...

*Can't remember if CA contracted players also have state contract

I believe it is possible to have a CA contract and not a state one.

With Zampa for example, makes sense for CA to pay him given he plays most IT20 and ODI games. Would be silly for NSW to pay him for occasionally playing a 50-over fixture.

Sam Kostas giving a big F U to selectors in this 'A' game

granted, overcast versus Rana is a big difference to Bumrah on a bouncy deck. Still, get the young man in
Absolutely not. He would be burnt and damaged debuting now.

What are our thoughts on Sam Elliot. Big tall bowler who has looked ok. Is his pace up enough to get a look in? Can bat a bit too.
The Vic attack is very honest - but if I am honest the lot of them are going to struggle to get a look in because they lack a yard of pace

I don't think zampa is actually contracted to them he's on a CA contract only NSW are just his nominated state.

We certainly like that [emoji[emoji6][emoji6]] clicks mark don’t we. I think that’s fine on our pitches but overseas we can use the slower guys.

I am more than happy to take the word of Stuart Clark over Ben Oliver

That's fair I was just surprised that he was so adamant and also that he said in public that he has messages. Clark is usually pretty measured like Copeland is.

Maybe, but Clark has also been quite vocal about the importance of Premier and FC cricket form.

I love Adam Zampa, genuine space cadet and great in short format but boy do I rate Stuart Clark getting on the attack here. Imagine how frustrating it is for Sangha and other guys in premier cricket when this stuff occurs driven by CA. As a poster mentioned earlier, if Zampa or CA want him in tests, get him to commute to premier clubs in SEQLD and or play for the bulls.
