Robinson is the one who is punching out of his weight division.

Have no doubt that Nick will be a key part of our midfield rotations for the next decade. Impresses me with his smarts and ability to provide a leading target in the middle half of the ground so that we can retain possession and not just blaze away. Uses the space well.

Out: Yarran (Calf) Graham (Omit)

No way this time around and given that Graham ran all day when McLean couldn't, it should be quite an easy call.

Really good effort from Graham today and would have looked even better had have he been used, when he created space.
Many of his good leads were ignored or favoured for a less desirable option.

Seems to be a isssue with all of our new guys.

Unfortunately it's only natural that senior players will look out for proven players instead of kicking to someone unproven.

Which is fine to a point but when you ignore someone that's busted his arse to be clear in the forward 50 and you kick to a 2 on 1, that can't be considered a wise choice.

Very true Harks. It's about playing smart football imho. It's cost us in the past when we have relied on Waite and Judd playing a good game instead of focusing on playing a strong brand of team football.

You have mentioned it been a issue at VFL as well before when the VFL players tend to look out for their own as well.

2014 the growth of Graham

“People who watched me play under 18s and who see me now wouldn’t see a massive difference, but if you ask the coaches they’d tell you there’s a huge difference in how I actually play the game now compared to when I first got here,” Graham said.
“When I got here I sat down with Mick and knew exactly what I had to work on to get to AFL level, and this year’s been a huge year for me in terms of running patterns.
It’s pretty much all about what your mindset is when you don’t have the footy – of finding your man, trying to get forward of the footy, creating space for others – that’s the sum of it.” -

2014 the growth of Nick Graham

The step-up from local footy is one thing. Transitioning from VFL to the big time is quite something else.
But Nick “Pussa” Graham is quite literally putting his best foot forward.
Just nine games into his senior career, the 20 year-old “Gippy” boy understands that to cut it at this level one cannot cut corners – hence, his steadfast commitment to getting his running patterns right.

“As much as you hate to say it, the gap between VFL and AFL is getting greater, just in terms of the speed,” Graham said between training sessions at Visy Park recently.
“At VFL level with the smaller ground you can get stuck in the contested style where it’s just contest after contest after contest, whereas on the MCG with a lot more open space the ball just hums up and down the ground.”
With the assistance of Mick Malthouse and the Carlton coaching fraternity, Graham has truly toiled to get his running game right – not that it would be immediately obvious to his Traralgon contemporaries.

I love Nicky. He's a fellow gippy boy like me. Yay !!!! I really think he will become a good player for us. I don't really like the mclean comparison. I can see why he is compared to mclean but I really think that Nicky will be a better player and moves better overall tbh.
McLean is no dud. But...

He's actually quicker than McLean and has a decent first few steps out of the stoppage. Moves is congestion better than McLean does IMO.

Whose a better comparison in your eyes Crippa?

Do you mean the better player, Graham or Mclean ?

As a general rule I don't like comparing players because I think it imposes a limit on a player which can turn out to be negative plus every player is naturally different and each individual player controls their own destiny. However, I compare players' style of football. With Graham, he can win the ball at the coal face and also win uncontested possession as well so he has a well rounded mix which is key nowaday and he's a sound user of the footy. His style in my eyes is similar to Gibbs actually. So how good is Graham going to become ? Well possibly very good because he's a very hard worker which everyone at the club says.
