Mega Thread Nick Daicos - Can he be the GOAT? Part 2

Holy hell. You might as well just stick to the collingwood board because there's no clear way to converse with you in a reasonable manner.
What? You don't understand what gets attributed as a contested mark and what doesn't? If you think Nick has never started with no advantage from a kick and then marked it - you're kidding yourself. However, he's not going to mark it in a way that gets accreditted as a contested mark - that has to be in a physical contest at the point of marking it - he doesn't yet have the core strength to use his hips to hold off or shift his opponent and he's not going to give away his advantage at ground level by launching over the top for marks - it's lower percentage for him than keeping his feet. I doubt McRae lets him near the specky bag at training.

Key difference is everyone had an admiration for how Judd played his footy. A lot of people have an issue with a free kick milking outside runner.

Don't think anyone ever questioned Judd's tenacity and toughness in the contest.
Yeah instead we criticized Judd's grubby/dirty deeds. Examples are chicken wing tackles, eye gouging and pressure points. Just ask Brendan Fevola.

I guess that's another fail from Daicos, who didn't do that until he was 20...
I've always been on the Daicos boat. Guy is a superstar. Would love to have him at Port. I think we've been treated to some awesome players post 2018. It's a real golden age.

Yep. And with the increased pressure and lack of space in the current game, there's been a shift from brute strength to the skill to create and open up space. Some of the more boofheady footy fans don't really get it.

If we are taking a legacy approach, Collingwood is obviously the biggest and best club with the highest level of independence against the AFL, has done the most to help other clubs, is the most consistently successful club etc etc and Nick Daicos is already the best player to have ever played for Collingwood in terms of ability and his status in the competition. I think that adds to his GOAT status.
Oh how Pies fans easily forget with big statements like this. Nathan Buckley IS Pies best ever player, then Pendles, then space... Bucks had the power, sublime skill, leadership, etc... that no other Pies player can match yet. ND not worthy of sniffing Bucks' jock strap. Maybe one day but certainly not now.

Do AFL players even wear jock straps, let alone sniffing each others?

So more than nick then yeah ?
Same as GAJ . Both dodgy shoulders, yet somehow managed to take contested marks. What's your excuse for Nick ?

There's no excuse.

That one extra contested mark he took once a month really what set Juddy apart.

1 is seemingly going to feel like 100 for Nick . Cmon , at least have 1 crack at it, he might surprise himself and think this shit is easy why didn't I try it earlier
He'll be a like a batsman who gets a rare over and flukes a wicket. Or the dour full back kicking a goal. The crowd is going to erupt, as it's all the footy world has been talking about. I'm hoping he saves it for a Grand Final - in the goal square.

P.S Walshy's coaches votes drivel was picked up by David King on SEN last week. You too could become famous and have Kingy go with Nick being too useless to take a contested mark. They've got to find something to crap on about.

Nah Nick doesn't need to contested mark, he bodies his opponents early so those marks don't seem like contested marks.

Also Gary Ablett Jnr wasn't good at stoppages or good at releasing his teammates like Nick
I didn't say Gaz wasn't good at stoppages - I said he didn't set up or play a first possession style. Dane Swan didn't either. Cochin was awesome at stoppages in the Tiger great years, but had low clearances in those years, because he didn't set up to. They all set up for a different style.

And I didn't say "bodies his opponents", but he does regularly check or if their trailing trick their run and then win a race to the ball in a heap of different situations - sometimes they end in marks to balls that weren't initially kicked to his advantage.

Wormy... Daics is the biggest, most frightening name in football this century, if he ever sat under a ball he would be KILLED, simple as that, no more Daics

No prizes for being stupid out there Wormy

Is Steph Curry terrible because he doesnt dunk every game?

Theres a reason why he is in a handfull of players that have been huge in NBA & considered among the best. He does his craft well and plays to strengths , pretty simple concept really.

"Nicks not great at contested marking. Cripps is slow but thats just part of his game" Says every carlton supporter
