Carman was so far ahead of his time.
Would routinely get up New Year’s Day early and bang out a 10km run. Not sure how many power forwards could do that back then, or even now.

Throw in the elite skills and intensity, and he’s gotta be one of the most talented players to have ever played the game.

Needed the mental strength and discipline as well though, which is obv where he was behind the curve
Is it true he still holds the record around the TAN for a footballer?

Here's a great article from Collingwood Forever about one of our greatest players;

Though a different type of player, I'd like to see Nick emulate Leeter in the number of flags.

I think Mark Blicavs has the second best time ever.
Really a semi professional footballer from the 70s/80s has no right to be in the same fitness level discussion as a potential Olympian from the 2010s. That’s meant to be a backhanded compliment. Bloke should be in the discussion for GOAT if everything went to plan. As we know too well, that doesn’t happen with us often. 😔

Who wouldn't. Although it takes over 30 players to achieve something like this.
One player means nothing.
I get where you're coming from though. Leeter kinda looks like Bucks.

I think Carman missed the first 8 games of one year and came second in the Brownlow.
Just a vote or two off winning.

Leeter had a magnificent physique, was a powerful athlete with a grim intent that had oppositions checking their six frequently because if Leeter nailed you you stayed nailed.

On top of this he was talented and skilful.

Jack (Captain Blood) Dyer described him as 'A young god'.

Had every player's respect and awe.

A true Collingwood great.

That’s insane for what training and diet and stuff would have been like in the day. Absolute unicorn of a man
And he loved a beer.
First bloke to Don the white boots.
Back then it was a big deal.
Brought up farming and shit and a landscaper by trade.

Just a freak of nature fitness wise. Tony Modra used to be like that they reckon. Would smash McDonalds and go and get on the piss all off season and come back in perfect nick every preseason at the Crows. Some blokes are just lucky

Tis true. Paul Van Der Haar used to go hard. Sometimes go to games pissed and with no sleep.
Jim Buckley, Wayne Johnston, Darren Millane all have stories to tell.

What I find really interesting is 6 umpires as opposed only 3 players sub 12 minutes, maybe we should hire the umpires trainers although I think we are doing well under Waite and see no need for a change.

Jim Buckley and Wayne Dominator used to come to my father's Cafe around 7am from a night of clubbing. I hated Carlton but they were still like my heroes.
They used to place bets at the TAB across the road. They'd stay for hours and then head off to play a game.
David Twomey also a regular. A top bloke and his younger brother Anthony and I became mates.
Burgundy Street Heidelberg

When David walked in and said hi to me I'd wet myself.
A nice family the Twomeys

You must have got pissed at the Old England like I did.

The Dom had some ripping stories on the Front Bar last year. It can be hard at times, but sometimes you realise Carlton players are still human and ok people. 🤮. That won’t happen again, apologies all.

You're excused brother. Yes exactly what you just said.
Meeting someone like the Dom or Jezza is surreal just as it is meeting a Pie.
These guys were like gods when I was a kid.

Dermie grew up a Collingwood supporter and Carman was his hero. You can see the parallels. Both gun CHFs, didn't mind the biff and the loud boots. Dermie had the fluorescent green ones.

Sticks and the lesser Madden are great blokes despite playing for that steaming load porcine excrement.

I'm harping on about players I have met or known and it's all true.
Dermie is one of the nicest blokes you could ever meet.
Funny as and loves a drink. His last drink he'd always pour over his head.
He'd say to the barman "you're a great guy" and then go home.
Johnny Platten a good laugh as well

Yep. Dads Cafe was next door to the Sir Henry Barkley pub in Heidelberg.
Across from the TAB.
Next Cafe he owned was the Hawthorn lunch Box.
Close to Glenferrie oval. Hawk players would come in daily.
Johnny Plattens wife struck up a friendship with my mum. She even called her mum. They were regulars at our place.
