He had every right to go high in the draft. The preferential treatment is that he had a say in where he went.

If Harley Reid averages 50 touches and 10 goals a game, does he get to pick his club of choice?

Take emotion out of it. Daicos is yours. But you know it’s a bullshit rule.
Thats has naught to do with nepotism though. Did he get a job at the expense of someone more qualified? No? Then it's not nepotism. End of.

But the father son rule is the worst rule in the game.
It's a wonderful rule that came into being to allow Ron Barassi Jnr to play for the club in which his Father, who died in WWII, played for.

I can understand why supporters of a non Victorian club, like you, don't like it, but your club chose to join the expanded VFL competition.

What a load of crap.
You wouldn't know. You don't have a clue what it means to see the son of a club legend play for your team. Therefore you have no concept of what that means to a supporter base. Meaning it's not surprising whatsoever you think it's a load of crap. I know Americans who are hardcore sports fanatics that have heard about the father son concept in our game think it's dumb too. But they also don't understand the difference between a club and a "franchise" like theres no difference. Ignorance is bliss.

So your issue is with me classifying it as nepotism? Fine I withdraw the word and replace it with “privilege”.

My point still stands. And the rule is shit and I’ve heard no good argument for it.

Anyway I realise it’s an unpopular opinion and will probably derail the thread so with leave it.

Not preferential treatment club to club. Preferential player to player.

Rowell and Cadman have to go where they’re told. Daicos and Ashcroft can go to their club or choice. How’s that fair?

It’s s**t and has always been s**t.
*Can go to their club of choice if that club has the required points (picks) to match the bid.

I can accept that we haven’t had many special father sons. But I’d be willing to forego all future ones for the good of the game.

The total package, elite ball use, elite work rate, his the scoreboard, finds the footy at will. I watch Collingwood games any chance i get just to see him play.

On and off the field he is a clubs dream. You never know how are a career will pan out but he is one of very few players that has GOAT potential.

i know exactly what it means. A player got preferential treatment for no other reason other than his name.

Might not be the exact definition but the principal remains the same. “Privilege” a better word for you?

I’m not attacking Collingwood or Daicos. He’s magnificent.

But the father son rule is the worst rule in the game.
Going by this explanation, you don’t know what it means.

N.Daicos has been bloody good this year, but I feel that Darcy Moore has been better for the pies this year.

Both are guns though and pretty handy to have in your defense.

I hate Collingwood like no other but every team has access to father sons. Some teams are lucky and benefit from it like Brisbane, Geelong and Collingwood and others don’t like my team. Saying that our Aflw team should be awesome in 20 years.

From a club perspective, it's perfectly equitable. Like someone else said, it's a shame our players didn't **** their wives enough 20 years ago.

But from a draftee perspective, it's completely unfair.

Didn’t Judd tear apart the Lions 3-peat midfield in his first or second year, the midfield that had 3 Brownlow medalists in it.
Yes he did. Hard to believe it was 20 years ago! Game has changed a lot since then. Nick doesn't have the breakaway speed Judd displays in this video. Judd was one touch, electric and noticeable. Even left Brereton speechless!

Different players, Nick is more silky and seems to be everywhere because he anticipates where the ball will be a half second before everyone else. Very smart footballer.

It's a pleasure watching him play.

I was sickened when North and the Giants didn't bid on him because I knew Collingwood wouldn't pay for him with the appropriate price. Vindicated

Moore kept you in the game, without looking at his possessions. Do you really think nick was best on ground
I thought it could have been any of N Daicos, JDG or Moore. Personally, I would have loved to see Moore win it.

In his second year he had 17 and kicked 5. Was against 2 Brownlow medalists, but none the less, bloody decent game for a second year player.

What did he actually on the game in the first 3 quarters. Did he create or have a hand in the 6 goals up to 3/4 time. Maybe you need to think about it a bit more
Well, he did have a goal assist and 9 score involvements. Would have been a good effort for it all to have come in the last quarter.
And if it did, then you could argue he was instrumental in winning us the game.

But the kid did have 33 disposals at 80% efficiency and 5 inside 50s in the first 3 qtrs. So, yes, he played his part in the first 3 qtrs.

There’s a handful of father sons a year, I think the game is better for it.
I would be extremely surprised if there has ever been, or ever will be a 17/18 year old sulking when getting drafted by an AFL club because some other kid was a father/son who got picked up by his dad’s old side.

What a load of crap.
Its much better to pull that crap you lot pulled last year to get kids to their dad's club right?

Kids being able to go to their father's club is one of the things that gives clubs their soul and stops this game devolving to the point where everything is an American style franchise.
