I was talking more public image of the club etc, he isn't exactly the most eloquent of speakers if you get me? his public speaking in general is fairly poor from what I have seen.

not really a prerequisite for a Captain although handy. I would rather atotal illiterate who could inspire a team onfield than a "Rhodes Scollar".
Maybe you could start a new position:

Captain.............Maxwell
Vice Captain......Johnson
Spokesman......Josh Fraser As he is exceptionally good on camera and with the media in general

Has anyone got footage of Maxys hit on Brown or his tackle on rooke in the prelim. I can't find it anywhere.

He is by far my favourite player and has been for years!! I mean I loved Licca to death but Nick was slowly catching him and now obviously has surpassed him.
He gives everything he has on the field for the pies and never leaves anything in the tank.
That tackle on Rooke was bloody brilliant, and I was at the game when he laid into Brown and broke his leg - I couldnt believe it when I found out it was broken, cause he just got up and kept trying to play. Thats got Collingwood blood in his veins written all over him.

I would love to see Nick as the next captain - but we do have to wait and see. He has my vote and will always have it!!!

This is a guy who nobody else wanted, came to the lexus centre and won best clubman having barely played a senior game. He loves collingwood and we love him... well at least I do ;)

It's early in favourites' thread with '07 highlights. :thumbsu:

After the St Kilda match he came out and spoke to us at the Lexus centre. He was really great. He subdued the idiots, took questions from us answering them straight and without hesitation. He even asked the crowd what we thought of the crap umpiring (with a smirk on his face) on that day. I thought it was also great the way he walked through the crowd to hear properly the question of a young child . I cant remember who he was with though. It might have been Marty. He was much better than the idiot that normally does the interviews after the game. If this is an example of how Nick conducts himself in the public domain I think hes a natural at it. I greatly appreciate the players for coming out and speaking to us after the game too.

This to me is another excellent example of what type of captain he would be!! He can do everything - and I think this is what the club should be looking at as well as on field performance.

Very tough player, and very under-rated. Not sure I would make him captain though.

You have so much young talent down there, just hold off for a minute on the captaincy decision for the future. For now make Josh captain and then in a few years give it to one off your new stars.

I dont know if I would want Josh to be captain. Not that he wouldnt make a good one, but I just think that he has already handed back leadership roles already and that is not a good start to be a club captain. But thats just my opinion.
Nick on the other hand shows everything a leader should both on and off the field, but of course it is the decision of the club and they will already know who they want I reckon, they just aint gonna say it till season starts.

Pretty well everything you can say about Maxwell's toughness and commitment has been said.
He makes Chuck Norris look like Mr Bean's sister.
I'm glad he is in the Black and White that's for sure.

it would have been nice to of seen a collingwood player deliver a blow like that however.

he was heckled a bit by a few on this board earlier in the season..after i dare said that he was critical to your structure..glad hes finally starting to get the credit he deserves

On Maxy as a possible future Captain: frankly, I think it's inevitable, the question is when. There's probably three ways to go. (1) A senior for a year or two - Burns obviously - but only as a transition figure (for obvious reasons such as Burns' impending retirement and also to make Maxy and the others really cherish the captaincy when it comes their way, that is, to demonstrate that only their consistent absolute best is good enough to make them captain - a-la Buckley's example), (2) a middle ranker such as Johnson or Lockyer on the understanding that the captaincy is a shifting and elusive credential that cannot be gainsaid by talent or aggro or assumed to be a matter of seniority or mere form, as well as to prepare them for the passing of the mantle in a couple of years, and (c) to send a message to the young - Penders, Clokie, Tommo, Goldie and the rest - that we are prepared to reward COMMITMENT and HARD WORK and RISK-TAKING.

Personally I can't imagine a finer example to set - and I suspect that this is what Mick will do.
