There's only one person I feel sorry for in all of this and that's Mike. He's a great guy who doesn't deserve all the **** that's been thrown at him.

I don't know, some people are never happy no matter what you do. I'm certainly going to miss the NBB family.

My point is easily proven in this thread. Everyone here are all very cool with each other and in many cases, have been for years.

One or two people making a negative comment, or offering a difference of opionion, does not make for a divided, infighting group of fans.

Why am I wasting my time talking to a Carlton supporter about infighting...the irony of it all!! :D :D

I'm devastated by this. Nick's was a big part of my life and i met so many wonderful people through it this year and formed new friendships out of it. I will miss it.

BTW i'm the same Natalie that was on Nicks if anyone cares. Just had to adjust my username.
 
It's a very sad day for all Collingwood supporters, regardless of whether you posted on Nick's or not. The closure of Nick's now means there are only two exclusively-Collingwood boards still around, Hotrod's and LSD.

Each board catered for a different 'audience', with Nick's probably having the most members and most traffic. What will everyone do now? Will Nick's members be welcome on the other boards? Possibly not (particularly the "teeny boppers" who everyone seems to love to pick on, but surely they too need an outlet?)

All Nick's refugees are quite welcome here, but please don't continue arguments from Nick's (or indeed any other boards) over here. It's a clean slate.

NICK THE PIE MAN and Joel have been here as long as I have been posting here which is almost three years. We have never crossed each other once. On the contrary, we are very, very much on the same side. Just like MarkT, Lock24, Hoggy, kristen....etc, etc, etc..

And we get one person, Pursya, come in, who has a whopping tally of 6 posts and makes a trolling comment, gets flamed and we're infigthing?? Gimme a break!!

I didnt realise the collingwood definition of "Everyone" was Everyone minus the people who are fighting. Sorry.

Given that the problems on Nicks were caused by Pie people, maybe you're not as united as you think or wish.
 
I am absolutely Devastated. I typed in the website, as I do everyday, and when it had Nick's is closed I was about to cry. Nick's was my first stop everytime I turned on my computer. Oh well, all good things must come to an end.

Not probably; DEFINITELY correctly.

When things go wrong and the lawyers start making phone calls, they don't call the poster - they call the operator of the site. Mike was perfectly entitled to enforce his rules as he saw fit on something he pays for. Everyone else is simply a guest.

In my house, guests who become unwelcome are brought into line or shown the door.

After all, there's no shortage of other boards for those who disagreed with the way Mike ran it.

From my occasional visits there, I found Nick's to be full of one-eyed fanatics - just the way a footy site should be, really. Tightly moderated, sure, but I think a very busy site for a club such as Collingwood really needs to be. (I thought you did a great job Joel, btw.)

Vale Nick's, another great site gone - we at Lionised forum dip our lids to yers.

Yes. I came and gave Joel a serve, he knows who I am and we do have a history.
If you cared to look at any of our following posts to each other you would find that we put the history behind us and talked about the devestating loss of Nicks.
We are a family and family occassionally have spats, but we move on as we are all Collingwood.
I have contacted Mike and have heard the reason for his closing the board. I am happy that he will not have to suffer any of that anymore. I do hope that he does reopen Nicks sooner rather than later if he feels the need.
This time though I would hope that he abides by these new rules, that is;
1. No personal abuse
2. No debates about operational matters with an individual mod.
3. No corespondence entered in to after a moderation decision.

I'm sure under these rules 50 or so of Nicks 1,000 posters would lose access, as I did. That leaves 950+ very happy people.

Some posters did not understand that you could have a different opinion on the way CFC was run, or you could prefer the labour party over the liberal party, but to many times these debates degenerated into personal abuse/accusations that had nothing to do with the topic at hand.

Mike has spent almost a decade running Nicks, originally with Nick himself. But Nick moved on leaving it all to Mike. He has tried to do the right thing by divorcing himself from the board, although that seemed unsuccessful to me. Such a site cost a lot to run, financially and emotionally. Maybe a years rest will refire the desire. Maybe not.
I personally would love to see Nicks up and running again, even though I do not have access.

Fearlessone77, I do pity you if you cannot see the positives that are coming from this thread. Please remember;

While we're at it fearless, please remember that team boards are for supporters of that team. You are here at their discretion. If you'd like to participate then please show some respect.

Comments like "You obviously can't read, but what more should I excpect from a collingwood person," are not respectful. And you spelled "expect" incorrectly ;)

A few stray idiots that every club has, should not, and will not, ruin the bond that the majority of us share.

Would be like saying Australia's pro-terrorism, because some Australian headcases were fighting with the Taliban. Laughable!!
 
Some good points made.

People should have been banned, no questions asked. Other posters don't like it they can go elsewhere or be banned also. There are a variety of sites out there if you go looking and it is a matter of finding the one that suits you best.

Anyone at LSD who causes trouble gets banned, is it always fair, nope but lifes like that.

Most people do want to be treated fairly.
When they are not they get p1ssed off.
And in most cases they do leave and go somewhere else.

So I suspect your point is the very reason "issues" continue to fester on Boards that had nothing to do with the original issue.

Me - I couldn't give a crap. I go where I want and leave when I want. If people don't like what I've got to say I see that as their problem not mine.
I will give as good as I get and if I get booted I go somewhee else.
No big deal.

This is crap, the minority had to ruin it for the majority. We had a really great thing going with Nicks and now its just gone.

Post your chick's channel stuff on here, girls - preferably, just make up one thread for it all (so you don't annoy the 'macho guys' too much!) BigFooty is full of inane chatter, so I can't see why this Collingwood board shouldn't have a bit of it too. And if anyone doesn't like it, simply don't read it!

Can I make a suggestion:

If a large number of Nicks posters are going to end up here then the past will have to be the past and the mods will have to be a bit ruthless with anyone causing trouble. I hate censorship and openly welcome all views on our club and related issues but if people are going to aruge personalities as oppoesed to Collingwood issue I think the mods should cut them off at the knees.

Just my opinion FWIW.

Those of you who were around bigfooty a couple of years ago when Nick's BB orignally looked like closing will remember some pretty rotten stuff going on on the main AFL board between Collingwood supporters and other teams supporters. From that these team based boards were born to give individual club supporters a place to talk about their own teams amongst themselves.

NTPM and Kristin do a good job of moderating this board, and will make sure that other team supporters do follow the rules and practice respect when posting here. It's a given that as supporters of the same team you are simply just going to have the good grace to respect each other.

The same is expected of EVERYONE when posting on other team boards and on the main AFL board.

Bigfooty caters to a massively broader audience in both things of interest and age groups than Nick's BB did, and as such there are some different rules and regulations here than there were on Nick's, in relation to personal attacks, swearing, swear filter evasion and that sort of thing. NTPM & Kristin will be able to fill you in on any of the major differences as required.

It's sad to see Nick's BB end in this fashion, it has been a web footy institution for so long now, for Collingwood and other footy supporters alike. It must have been a hard decision for Mike to make.
