I think this is good for the competition. Opens it up from just a Holden and Ford rivalry which IMO has plateaued.

NISSAN is set to be a shock inclusion on the V8 Supercars grid next year with powerhouse Japanese manufacturer to announce tomorrow it will be taking the fight to Holden and Ford.

In an historic inclusion which V8 Supercars claim will bulletproof the future of the sport, Nissan have agreed to re-join the series in 2013 in a move which will inject hundreds of thousand of dollars into the sport and place a wedge between the iconic battle between Holden and Ford.

The bombshell entry will also give several lowly placed teams the ammunition to take on the likes of Holden backed team Vodafone, with the manufacturer to pull out the cheque book in a bid to upset their manufacturing rivals.

The Kelly Racing Team will tell Holden they are defecting to the Japanese company.

News Limited also understands the announcement, to be made by V8 Supercars and Nissan tomorrow at Crown Casino in Melbourne, will be the first of many.

Several other manufacturers, including Chrysler, have been in talks with the fast growing series and are also expected to join the Aussie bred fight.

Both Holden and Ford have welcomed the new competition with Nissan’s inclusion likely to help address the uneven split which this year saw 17 Commodores taken on 11 Falcons.

As long as they don't allow the Nissans to run a 4WD set up then all ok. Chrysler joining the competition will be good.

Finally, this was needed for the category to grow, as it opens up so much more of a chance in the lucrative Asian sports markets then before.

Would love to see Toyota get involved, or even a Hyundai or something like that, the V8 supercars could become the Asian touring car championship very quickly.

As long as Ford and Holden are still supported I have in problem with any manufacturer joining in.:)

Details are here concerning the specs the cars need to meet come 2013

The basics for those that can't be bothered reading all that are,

All cars will be 4 door sedans, V8 rear wheel drive, of simmilar size.

A full control chassis, different teams then builds their car body ontop of that to look like Holden, Ford, Nissan, Chrysler etc

Control engines, be that the current 5lt V8 from Holden and Ford or a modified version of the a munufactures V8 the suit with a parity system.

The main benifits of this are, the introduction of new maufaturers, closer racing, impoved safety and lower operating cost (currently a car cost approx 1million just to start up the new program should bring this down to around 250,000)

I thought V8 Supercars had to be Australian production cars? Do Nissan have an Australian V8 sedan that is sold to the public do they?

They need to get mercedes in on it...europeans will be hooked.....

As a kid I was a fan of the Chargers so it will be great if Chrysler returns. After Chrysler departed I followed the Nissans so it is great to see them return as well.

My only problem, if both return who do I follow?? :)

It aint gonna be a real Nissan until Nissan people run the team, next year its just kelly bros racing (spin off from when skaife had hrt and skaife set this up apparantly) racing sumfin with fiberglass panels and nissan badges..
like triple 8, who are ford infidels in holden shells...

but thats me....

Ho hum, not even a real Nissan. Fabio Capello quitting and England's soccer coach was bigger news here.

When they've already got the DTM? The internet as well?

Hope he ****s off just quietly.
That piece of s*** never does anything quietly. Just be satisfied with him p****** off, hopefully.

I can't imagine Nissan will amount to much anyway, they're in partnership with the Kelly's.

Todd Kelly was just on SEN, was quite interesting. The push for them came from thefact that they get no factory $$$ out of Holden, but this opens up new funds.

The car is set to be based on a new Nissan which will be released in the States later this year. Most interestingly, they are looking at using a production block, as opposed to the pupose built Holden and Ford ones....

Holden have learnt, they're not stupid enough anymore to give the Kelly's some of their money. A good "business decision" from Holden. Unfortunately for Nissan, they're left with the rest and, apparently, that means the Kelly team. If I were a part of the Nissan maangement, of those teams that are behind the big ones, I would've tried to pinch BJR off Holden. Even though Bright hasn't won a title, he's good enough to win one and has a habit of picking up first wins for new teams. BJR also have a history of working well with a manufacturer, Audi, in super touring, during the '90s.

Apparently, this one...http://www.leftlanenews.com/nissan-altima-sedan-2013.html
You saw it here first. :thumbsu:

It's what the sport needs. I think it's a good decision and will definitely add some much needed interest to the category. Another manufacturer coming into the mix such as Chrysler would be great also.

The thing that pleases me the most of the entrance costs of $250K, might be able to see a lot more cars on the grid (particularly at the endurios) which is only better for the sport. Makes a change from the Holden vs Ford battle which Ford seem to be losing interest in.

Greg Rust was saying that they need to bring the field to 35 cars for Nissan to rejoin.

That will never happen, not even for Bathurst (which is dead wrong but anyway)....

They may need to find a new driver for their 4th car in 2013 with Murphy and Holden still with strong links (particularly in NZ). Bit surprised that GRM didn't try to re-establish a link given Garry's run a Nissan dealership for years and they ran a Primera for a while in Super Touring (non-factory).
