Renshaw’s been through some wild form slumps and bounced between opening and middle order, but I think he showed the temperament in his early tests, and has developed his ability to change tempo. Still think it’ll click for him one day.

Also I’m sure plenty of guys have averaged mid 30s at 25 and gone on to excel. McSweeneys last 2 years of shield cricket tell a much more positive story, he’s just not an opener.
Renshaw has improved but I still don't think he's good enough. Mcsweeney is nowhere near it, hasn't been prolific at any stage of his career. Only averages 42 in grade cricket and 36 for his state, was a baffling selection even more so picking him to open.

Each state should be made to play one guy under 23.

State cricket should be angled to finding test cricketers not playing pensioners like Siddle / bird types
Thought that was the futures league purpose?
There's a good youngish batting group starting to take shape:

Konstas
Renshaw
Labuschagne
Green
Head
McSweeney
Inglis

They're all 30 or under and have test match ability, albeit some are inconsistent or unproven. Beau Webster and Aaron Hardie are on the edge of that group as all rounders. I'm less sure about the young bowling stocks: Todd Murphy is a bit underwhelming, Richardson looks cooked, unsure about Morris.
Remshaw, Inglis, Loose Bus and Head are all close to going over 30 in the next year or so
Have some hope for a couple of younger players but you start to wonder if the T20 $ will eat up more talented players 😔
Morris will be ok but like Richardson, you start wondering if their bodies aren’t made for it, Hardie has been good last season and hopefully can start getting some big scores again. Pace we should be ok but spin kinda hoping Pope or Mr Potter will start getting some good returns

Those saying Marvel is looking the worst it ever has obviously don't remember the "Death Valley" days of the early 2000s where games were moved at less than a day's notice because it wasn't safe. Having said that, it looks really poor for cricket.

The boy McGurk needs a good hard look at himself. Keeps hitting the ball in the air early in his innings and keeps getting out. He's a lovely clean hitter but he's playing dumb.

McGurk is everything I hate about non-red-ball cricket embodied in a single person.

He’s not a cricketer. He’s what the commentators love to call ‘an entertainer’. Bleh.

He's strong with a great eye, unfortunately he has no grasp of his game. If he can figure it out he could be anything, right now he should be playing grade cricket.

There's a reason Victoria let him go, same for JFM.

It's because they don't care about the longer forms of cricket and couldn't be ****ed putting in the time and effort to play become good 1st class players.

Why would they though? JFM especially is going to make millions playing T20. It's easy for him. No responsibility, turn up make 35 off 14 balls every 3rd game. Win or lose it doesn't matter, move onto the next game, onto the next tournament, collect another paycheck. Rinse and repeat.
