Once again we are getting no respect from the punting world.

Roos = $2.00 Bombers = $1.80

Roos Under39.5points. Take it to the bank!!!

Very confident on this one for one of the few times this season.

What about St.Kilda's review in todays Herald-Sun.

"Thomas' men need six wins from nine games to be assured of making the finals. Danger games are Melbourne (MCG), Brisbane (Telstra Dome), Geelong (Telstra Dome) and Fremantle (Subiaco)".

They also quote their four "Ladder Shapers"

Rd 14 W Bulldogs (MCG)
Rd 16 Richmond (MCG)
Rd 18 Melbourne (MCG)
Rd 22 Bris Lions (TD)

Not one mention of our round 20 clash at Telstra Dome and they have mentioned 6 other games. Obvioulsly they think we have no hope even though we have beaten them this seasaon and have 8 wins. Surely if they do beat us it will help their cause of getting into the eight as we are one of the teams in there at the moment. A ladder shaper at least.

As the title of the thread says No Respect.

Re: High Stakes for Bookies

It makes ideal sense for the Bookies to have North as underdogs:

Look into the high stakes of the Bombers who can ill-afford to lose.
Look at the current formline of both teams. Essendon are playing up to thier capacity and North aren't seen as a geniune threat. What's been our highest winning margin this season ? So we've won more games and have the wood on Essendon in recent seasons, it's one of those seasons that anything can happen. History means little. Ironically we've been underdogs in each of those games we've beaten them over the last few seasons. :) Let the trend continue. The underlining point is most likely that they have had more finiancial backers putting more money on the Bombers than the Roos so it goes without saying, the Bookies have to look at thier own situation to outweigh the good with the bad.

I gave the Bombers a 40/60 chance last week, wasn't convinced with the Saints and it seems the Saints without Hamill are extremely vunerable.

Very true. But until North do some DAMAGE on teams, we can't claim respect in the eyes of the fickle media. The excuses keep cropping up, thier team was underdone, thier team was out of form, thier team missed easy goals...blah blah blah. All these articles are only GREAT AMMUNITION. Keep it coming as words are cheap as the paper they're written on. :)

The world is awaiting for North to crumble. It's up to North to STICK IT UP 'EM .... with some OOOOMph !

Get some perspective - everytime we go into a game as the favourites we lose!

I still think we were favs vs the Hawks though. ;) But I see where you're coming from CM. The fickle media need to be taught a valuable lesson. Even that pretender North follower, Geoff Poulter, who doesn't pick us (extremely rare in 05) but when given which teams will fall out of the 8, he didn't nominate North ? Must be ultra superstitious or just has NO HEART to tip North. Weak dog.

I'm with you, OOOOMph ! :)
My OOOMph has Sav being the re-mastered key to our 2005 hopes. Enjoy ourselves today, North Melbourne boys are hard to beat when we come out to PLAY ! ( To PLAY means going with some Deep Threats capable of doing the damage)

We get No Respect

Like every year the so called "Experts" Tip us outside the 8 and then when we Play Well and Make the 8 they say "The Kangaroos have been a big suprise"

Which is Most Likely gonna happen Again this Year

Yeah, well I was confident against the Bulldogs this year & look what happened. I don't give a fat rats clacker whether the media/sporting agencies respect us - Make the finals, cause some chaos & win a flag - then we'll get respect. Until then - care factor of zero.

Punters are ignoring us because we're hard to predict. I'd have to agree.

The bookies are about making money and the odds are saying more people have money on Essendon than they do North. That's really not that big a deal.

You're half right. The books are only out to make money, but it is the books that are giving us no respect by setting the initial price. If the market agrees then the price won't move.

Nothing to do with more $$ coming in on the bombers.

The books are "dissin" us, not the market. At least not yet!

Respect is not something you ask for or demand with spoken words. It is something you earn and is bestowed upon your from the opposition from your performances on the ground.

The fact the bookies have us at higher odds than Essendon and the media ignore us to some extent is all a function of our performances this year and in past years. As l have said before, it's these sort of games we historically drop, if want respect, we can start to earn it by winning the games we should win.

I agree Wrath with you here but I think what annoys people here is they judge us one way & yet look at St Kilda, Richmond, Sydney & even to an extent Melbourne another way. These clubs are no better off than us this year dropping games to possibly shape there season & so forth. Richmond have done nothing for years & yet get more respect than us every year, why I do not know.

don't see it as no respect! respect comes from peers. see at as a chance to make more money take the $2 there offering and run wit it!!!
