Find it increasingly difficult to care about American politics, and I severely judge fellow Australians who engage in it without knowing the respective members for their area for all three levels of government. However if you do and still care about US politics... well you're probably boring as shit to have a beer with but at least you're a real Australian who cares about their community (left or right - it's up to you, but at least engage with where your vote is ultimately going).

Australian politics is in your sphere of influence, American politics absolutely isn't - and I wager you'll never actively feel the affects in a proper tangible way whoever the President is over there.

Tldr. You have no right to quote, or even care about US politics if you don't have a locked down stance on your local area.

As far as my political standing in Australia, I have always taken pride in my views on the electiions and what happens in our country. As per the laws of Australian politics, I have never missed voting for a candidate that is up to protect our system.
Unlike many I do realise and under stand that I do not, elect our Prime Minister. There are many that do think they are voting as to who will be the next PM.
And also as per American politics, what happens there has a large effect on our country. Many decision they make have a flow on effect on our economy. Our pollies are jittery about Trumps call to place tariff on imports from all countries, especially China.
There is nmore to politics than justAustralia. I am no guru, but still take note of other countries.

Jake Fraser-McGurk again out cheaply. I know he's a highlight machine, but I just don't see any reason he should be getting picked for Australia.
Agree. Personally I think you need a level of technique (in terms of a technique that works i.e. Smith not necessarily textbook) and temperament to make it at international level in any format of the game.

Think JFM needs to focus more on batting and less on hitting boundaries at international level. He's trying to hit balls that aren't there for four and six. It's not going to work the same way it does at lower levels because at international level almost every bowler is an absolute gun in comparison to the worst bowlers at state level.

Konstas put his hand up today - side's announced tomorrow.

In a way I feel whoever they pick is going to fail tbh.

Would almost rather them effectively end the test career of Harris forever (good riddance) than dent the confidence of a youngster that’s actually got the ability to eventually play at test level.

I think McSweeney comes in when Smith retires tbh (Green will come in for Marsh within that time). Whether he’s worth a risk as an opener prior to moving down the order is the question. With Konstas we almost need to make sure he turns into a test player - the cupboard is extremely bare for actual openers and I’m not potentially ruining the one guy that looks okay is worth the risk.

I see what your saying but we are catching the Indian bowling line up at a good time. If Konstas can survive Bumrah's opening spell he's a chance to thrive. We need to start building this team for the future and, as you say, Harris is not worth wasting time with.

Save him for the Ashes next year.

He needs another 12 months I reckon.

He has barely played any FC games at the test venues.

McSweeny probably ahead of him.

Going back to Harris who is not only the worst opener statsically since the 1880s but a shit fielder is a backwards move.

Bancroft still has the same flaws he had before sandpaper.

100%

Pick the best player and back them in.

Bancroft is cooked. Renshaw hasn’t shown anything much for ages and we know that Harris will struggle at test level and is over the age of 30.

If they choose Konstas then back him and let him develop his game. If he fails it is good learning opportunity. McSweeney isn’t far off with likely further retirements on the horizon (ie Smith). We actually need a second opener with Khawaja surely not far off retirement as well.
