Yeah it's a bit silly and I think the umps would probably step in with any other player. The Big Show can do what he likes in the BBL. The other night he conducted a fielding clinic and provided commentary while the game was on.

Last few days, Smith, Maxwell and a couple of the Englishmen have highlighted the gap between high quality internationals and the run of the mill BBL squad member.
What kind of coin would those BBL guys like maxwell and stoinis be earning?
I’m assuming the lesser guys on BBL would be on relative peanuts compared to even a decent AFL player.
Maxwell certainly has a generous sized ego no doubt about that. Why doesn’t he ever play for the Aussie test side? Do they not believe he’s a consistent enough batter or what?

As a non-established Test player, Maxwell is too old now. Previously he wasn't regarded as technically good enough for a top 6 Test batter. The game's changed though since Maxy was 21.

I think the selectors have shown their hand recently by introducing Konstas and now Connolly to the squad (Webster, while older, was already in the squad and simply a like-for-like replacement for Marsh).

Forget everything else - Maxwell has barely played Sheffield Shield or any other type of red ball cricket in 4-5 years. That is enough for him not to get picked.

Also think they've named a pretty solid squad for the champions trophy but I see people are still complaining about the "boys club", not dropping guys from limited overs squads based off test form etc. Also well done to Bailey for turfing the over hyped and overrated Jake Fraser Mcgurk - Now to NEVER pick him again (unless he completely changed his game - can't see that happening).

I don't think their BBL contracts would even be peanuts compared to AFL players tbh. Lesser BBL yes certainly.

Add to that State contracts, CA Contracts and contracts from IPL and other T20 leagues around the world and I'd be surprised if either is earning less than the highest paid AFL player.

Maxy absolutely does not have the temperament to be a test batsman, that's ok though he's a great limited overs cricketer.

I'm mad at Sean Abbot, played a hand in depriving us of two quality test batsmen we desperately need.
It was a freak accident mate.

I think Sean should be proud of the career he has had post that incident.

It would have taken great mental strength to put it one side and just continue to forge on after that.

Mitchell Johnson said he wasnt the same player again after Hughes death and he didnt even bowl the ball.

Same as Shane Watson when it came to batting.

I reckon most players were in Sean's shoes would have folded and struggled to forge any sort of career after it.

His courage should be lauded not getting bagged for an once in a lifetime accident that could have happened to anyone

Marcus Stoinis last 6 years in ODI Cricket he has played 50 Matches

Batting - 774 Runs @ 19.84 - HS 52 - 50s = 1, 0s = 4 SR 90.31
Bowling - 30 wickets @ 42.96 - BB 2/20 = SR 43.20, Econ = 5.96

Has there been a bigger fraud living off a reputation then this bloke.

He has been picked for the Champions Trophy in Pakistan at 35 years of age he isnt getting any better.

Like wtf are we doing

His last ODI 50 was in Nagpur - March 2019

Since then we have had 2 x ODI world cups, a Covid Pandemic, Ross Lyon was still coaching Fremantle & West Coast were defending AFL Champs ffs.

Yea I did say the Champions Trophy side wasn't too bad but tbh the inclusion of Stoinis is a bit of a joke.

A few comments on other selections people have complained about:

You need proper batters on wickets that do anything - Labuschagne and Smith are good selections. I remember saying similar things in the lead up to the 2023 World Cup - We don't win that tournament without both in the side.

Marsh has always been a limited overs player. Complaining about him being selected over Webster, who's not even close to the limited overs set up, is borderline laughable.

Saying Hazlewood isn't in our best limited overs team is equally laughable. Probably our best limited overs bowler. Injuries maybe a concern for him and Cummins but you don't win tournaments by leaving your best players at home. Remember Travis Head was MOTM in the 2023 WC final and didn't start the tournament.

Good squad but Stoinis is a head scratcher.

Stoinis may as well go sightseeing while he is at the Champions Trophy, not going to get a game for Australia against any serious competition. Adds a new meaning to "Being on tour"
