Konstas decision completely justified, and he would know that himself.

The south Asian teams seem to be stuck in a time warp. The problem with preparing turning wickets and stacking your bowling with spinners is that you still need quality spin bowling, of which there was very little yesterday (the leggie went OK).

Mitch Starc's looking forward to an easy time ... two 4-over spells each innings should be his workload.
I actually thought Vandersay was pretty poor. His first ball was unplayable but even his wicket was from a bit of a nothing ball that Manus must still be wondering why he played at: Smith was toying with him. Jayasuriya was their only decent bowler on the day (poor bugger bowled nearly half the overs. This keeps up he'll have no finger left.

Yeah, weird strategy all round from the Lankans. I think our spinners will bowl much quicker (90K+) and be more dangerous. Starc might take an opener out and then say to Smith, "I'm done now on this pitch".

Smith showed great patience to soak up the Sri Lankan negative bowling tactics. He and Uzzi will be fresh today and could really cash in on an uninspiring SL attack. Attack might be too strong a word for that group of pop gun trundlers.

I think it will reverse. Particularly once the pitch finishes drying out into the shit-tip the curators were aiming for.

I am frustrated that the ashes test is on at the same time as the AU/SL test.
The best present my now wife has ever given me was turning her old office space that she no longer used into man cave with her old tv and the one I brought with me when I moved in a number of years ago. Multiple TVs + Multiple Gaming consoles = Ability to completely avoid this dillema.

Hard to believe.
Dural is about 15 mins from where I live.

It seems a lot of these antisemitism incidents are happening more and more in sydney

I know the score doesn't help but why the low crowd numbers at the cricket in Sri Lanka?

They used to be fanatical but there is zero atmosphere and it seems to be more Aussies there.

Maybe the ticket prices are too high and not affordable for the average Sri Lankan?

They are big on 20 20 over there

I’m a general sports fan and not a diehard cricket fan but more of a casual fan if it’s on.

Just been reading the last 2 pages of serious debate of who should or shouldn’t open for Australia in this “test”, as if it were a crucial decision to the outcome.

switched it on a few min ago and Australia are in some shitty park playing a pub side with 200 people and a few dogs watching them.

They are about 600 runs (ridiculous 😂) ahead and these jokers are already 3 wickets down.

Looks to me like Australia could have opened the batting with Anthony Albanese and Peter Dutton out there and would still win easily. What’s the point in this farce?

The number one thing you look for in a spectator sport is some form of competitiveness. Especially to attract casual fans.

Khawaga getting 200 runs lol - the guy couldn’t make it to 10 runs an innings a month ago against proper opposition.

Its as If Fremantle Dockers Played kelmscott bulldogs in a competitive match and Bailey Banfield kicked 14 goals.

Sri Lanka aren't that bad, they had a bad day yesterday, missed a couple outs on reviews, dropped like 5 catches, it could've completely changed the game.

We haven't won a series in Sri Lanka in 14 years

Last time we went there we won the first test comfortably and then they spanked us by an innings in the second test.

Maybe. I don’t know much about them. But based on what’s happened to far they are miles off the standard Australia are at.
Poor look for cricket more broadly if this Sri Lanka team are supposed to be good.

Like I said - not much of a fan but I found myself curious and enjoyed watching the India tests as the games were interesting and competitive.

Zero interest in watching this though 💁🏻‍♂️

Other things to remember are first day and 2nd day pitches in the sub continent, tend to be the best pitches for the test. By the look of it, that is the case for this match, so winning the toss is a big advantage. (Winning the toss is probably worth 100 runs, maybe more)

Head attacked early, and forced the field back. Once you the field is back, you are able to make more false shots as the chance of a fielder being there to catch the ball is reduced.

When you add that, to the 3 or 4 dropped catches, a bad LBW non review and Sri Lanka could be a lot closer. (As others have said)

Tests within series can go with lopsided results one way or the other. The last time Australia toured Sri Lanka in 2022 we won the first test by 10 wickets and lost the 2nd test by an innings and 39 runs. India comprehensively thrashed us in the 1st test in Perth but we won the closer games to take out the series 3-1.

Sri Lanka's recent 2024 record is a series loss against South Africa in South Africa 2-0, and a series loss to England in England 2-1 in a 3 test series. They beat New Zealand 2-0 in a home series. So they mostly play short series of 2 or 3 test matches.

We still have to take 17 more wickets in the next 3 days and there's a possibility of thunderstorms which might shorten the hours played per day.

Exactly right. Winning the toss and batting before the pitch started to degrade was a big help too.

Test cricket needs these sort of series. The big 3 are reticent enough to tour the 'lower tier' nations as it is.
