Little damp in Townsville at the moment. We've had 260mm for the day so far, expecting up to 2 metres in the next few days. Good time to be on a boat!

Crazy trade for sure, not sure I'd agree with worst ever? I'm not even certain which team won the trade? I could easily make an argument either way.

Doncic is a freak Talent, But so is AD? Doncic also seeming unmotivated with poor conditioning recently. Heaviest he's ever been and having repeat calf injuries. Granted AD has health issues also, and I think your probably right Lakers won the trade. I just don't think it's that one sided.

Sorry, Doncic is significantly better and younger and a true franchise leading top 5 player. These are basically impossible to get and in the NBA with only 5 players on the court exponentially more valuable.

It is so bad, there needs to be an investigation for colluding.

I happened to be in Dallas last year during the NBA finals, watching on the big screen downtown and people kept telling me how they were happy that Mark Cuban was gone.

There is the theory that they want the supporters to desert them so they can move to Vegas

Honestly I understand the Adelsons' not wanting to pay the super-max for Doncic. His conditioning and attitude are genuine concerns.

I don't understand why the Mavericks options started and ended with just AD and one first round pick essentially. People think they can win now, but I never thought that about them even before this trade.

The trade itself is bizarre, but when you contextualise the crazy bidding war they would've created, it's downright madness.

Not sure where to put this, so it’s going here.

Saw that the Harbormaster meeting was yesterday. Can someone give me a little history about Harbormasters and why they have this special meeting?

How does one become a HM? Is it team related or is it actually a Mariner in the port of Freo? What are the terms exactly?

I know a little bit about them but never really got the full story. Just curious. TIA.

You have to start out at the Blue oyster bar.
Once you understand & embrace the life of the seamen you can then join the embrace of the harbour masters.
It's a journey.

Was a membership tier / status that was available for inaugural members back in the day.

I want to say in like 2016/2017 they opened up registrations for it again.

Can anyone explain this NBA trade to me using AFL players as an example? I don’t really know NBA but wanna know why everyone is losing their minds
You can't really get the full context because talent in the NBA is worth exponentially more given squads are like 13 with really only 8-9 used when at full strength.

There is added context because the Mavs traded him to the Lakers (who get kissed on the dick every time with these things) without even asking anyone else what they would give.

it would be like if Port called up Geelong and traded Butters, Rozee and JHF for Dangerfield, Cameron and pick 30

Yeah, they could have got the full package and then some from any other team in the competition if they shopped around. But now it's properly confirmed they only spoke to Lakers since they were deadset on getting AD to win now, which is why Lakers then had leverage to ony give up 1 of their 2 picks also! Absolutely insane. I would take take the garunteed 1-2 rings over the next decade with Doncic than gamble for 1 ring now whilst massacaring your franchise optically. I have second-hand depression for Dallas fans.

As tinfoil as it sounds, it wouldn't be unprecedented for American sport.

A fair amount of the Mav's majority owners' net worth is tied up in casinos. IIRC they've also been pushing to attach a fully fledged casino to their existing stadium redevelopment plans. If that keeps falling through it wouldn't be that farfetched for them to ruthlessly gut the franchise and then point to declining support in Dallas as cause to move to Vegas.

Regardless of the motive, it's pure insanity.
