I really feel for Swans fans.

If the umpires had done a better job they would have only lost by 10 goals.

I hope their supporters go over this game with a fine tooth comb repeatedly until they have convinced themselves it was somebody else’s fault.

They'll always have 2016.

I have to admit this was pure class by Selwood... That poor kid has endured so much.

Also I hate to admit it but we need to raise our professionalism as a club like Geelong as they have set the benchmark..

100 per cent, that was a brilliant moment and for someone with kids that age it got me.

Need to lift our professionalism on and off the field (and nothing to do with you Dunkley, that's just a cop out.

Need to get serious about where we're heading and to squeeze every bit out of the playing list (doubt we squeezed 20 per cent this year), ruthless approach to the list, remove deadwood, get creative with trading and trade or delist players that we don't think will take us any further.

Adopt the Moneyball approach to recruiting, don't just recruit VFL hacks, get more physical (we go in every year looking like weaklings), recruit more pace, pace and pace. Beveridge needs a strong team behind him and Bont needs to get to tougher with his standards and expectations of the group. Right now we're too soft.

If people are so keen to post Selwood hagiographies across multiple threads on here, maybe take them to the Cats board. He still whinges when frees are (rarely) paid against him, and his coach's best-known trait is whingeing about anything that doesn't go his way.

Give me Eddie Betts and Nat Fyfe any and every day of the week.

They might earn some respect from me when they acknowledge the ridiculous leg-up they get playing on their own dung-heap exclusively year after year.

While I agree with you, I don't think Geelong are the benchmark, particularly of clearing out dead wood when they recruited Higgins & Dalhaus...

Not wanting to denigrate the Saints, but pinched this from their board. Wonder what our comparison was pre-2016?

Off the top of my head:
Thorpe
McGhie
Ellen
Koster
Lake
Hogg
Montgomery

Athorn, Dahlhaus and Wilson played in losing GFs.

I've probably missed a few obscure ones. So still short of 20, at least!

Edit: Sam Reid another one in a losing GF side. And Josh Hill.

It was great to see neither Cameron nor Rohan having any influence in a major final - as usual 🤣
Chris Scott would disagree with you. He sent Gary Rohan out to sacrifice his own game and nullify the influence Dane Rampe has on the Swans' back 6 defensive structures. It must have worked because Geelong scored with ease against a team that has shut everyone else down.

Should the Geelong Football Club not play in Geelong ?

How do we solve this issue for those who keep banging on about it ?

Play their games @ Marvel and the G ?

People will then just complain about how they get to play on the G so many more times than we do, and how that is so unfair come finals time.

I think it’s pretty clear that they are capable of playing great footy at any arena in Australia. They have great playing talent and a great coaching set up which would adapt to any situation.

Personally it sounds silly from a Bulldogs perspective to keep going on about their record in Geelong based on our pathetic record against them AWAY from KP.

Make them play all their home games at home against all opposition, not just those interstate sides and us. It's only cos the AFL want the $$ that Geel play in Melbourne.

We lose 4pts every year by playing them down tnere

Fair enough in the sense that may make it fairer on clubs that always play there.

However, by playing all their games at KP that will just make Geelong stronger and it would be more unfair according to many of their critics as they have this unfair advantage from playing there.

What irritates me most about Geelong and where they play is they get 5-6 games at the MCG year in year out for decades. We are an actual Melbourne team but get two if we are lucky.
People turn up to watch them play at the G. Our supporter base does not turn up when we play at there sadly.

Because they’ve been a consistently good side for 15 years running and as a result their supporter base has grown to a point where a decent cohort will turn up to watch them play away at the MCG.

In that time we have lost 3 prelims, had a club crisis, won a flag, had a massive hangover and been thrashed in another grand final.

Obviously it’s more complicated than that but to the average person looking for a club to support and they see Geelong at the top all the time and us fluctuating, the choice is clear.

I can’t stand the Cats but they would gladly play Collingwood/Essendon/Hawthorn at their dung heap instead of the G as they would make more money. It’s the AFL who has them play at the G so more people can attend.
