Hawks calendar probably not going to be a big seller for 2023. 1 out of 4.

Feel sorry for Zaine Cordy. I felt sorry for him having to sign with Saints BEFORE yesterday.

Dunkley's naive commenting on a coach he may never play under, nah not so sorry for him.

And Schache and Hunter playing under Goodwin, who has had some well-documented issues of his own (tbf he may have overcome them, I don't know).

Beveridge has his detractors (I'm neither pro- or anti-Beveridge at this stage), but our club is lucky to have had him over the past 8 years, and not one of those other muppets.

In fairness to Ratten, Vince Lombardi couldn't make St Kilda successful in their current state.

Their key pillars right now should be building around kids taken with early picks - Ben King kicked 5 behinds in a game to fluff their finals chance last year, Coffield is 'ok' but now recovering from an ACL, and Hunter Clark was offered to North (North!) for a 4 pick upgrade, and that offer was rejected. That's their drafted talent core. They paid a ransom for Brad Hill too.
In many ways he was on a hiding to nothing after being handed the historical lemon that is the St.Kilda f.c.

Its just that from the outside he has never come across as an inspirational leader. Or one that is full of innovation. I dunno, it could just be the understated demeanour and beat down, hangdog expression that he always seems to carry. Yes, I understand that may well be a consequence of the trauma that he has faced in his personal life and for that Im profoundly sympathetic. As I said, he's always come across as a nice bloke. Its just that this game chews up and shits out nice guys on a regular basis.

I suspect that the life of a senior assistant coach be the one for him.

Dont feel too bad for Zaine. He'll probably be at the Saints longer than the next coach...

As for Beveridge. Better the Devil you know, because the prospective coach pool feels a little shallow right now. Especially for any team contemplating taking a dive into it. Unless the Saints have a proven premiership winner (like Beveridge) in their sights. The sacking of Ratten for all of his faults after getting him to re-up for another two years is one of the more baffling moves by a club in recent times.

Actually don't mind what Sam Mitchell is doing with Hawthorn. They are a mile off contending so why waste time with over the hill big salary guys, especially O'Meara who was supposed to be the next Gary Ablett. Fast track the youth, get good picks and go from there.

Agree. Should have traded us Wingard for Geelong's future fourth.

To be fair to Max King, he was the main reason they were close to finals in the first place.

But yeah their list is very bland. Steele is great, King is great and will continue getting better, I like Marshall, Wilkie and Sinclair, but the rest of the list doesn't get me too excited. Some nice enough players but mostly just a lot of foot soldiers. Clark and Coffield not coming on (and there has been a lot of injury reasons behind that) have really hurt, maybe there is a chance they take a leap with a bit more luck.

I think they sort of needed to do those trades a few seasons ago, they were stuck in a rut and I'm not sure they could keep hitting the draft. The Howard one has worked out decently enough but Hill was an overpay from the start and has looked worse by the season and I'm sure they wish they got more out of Jones too.

They need to hit the draft again hard now though and they have a decent enough hand this year. Got a fair few games into Wanganeen-Milera, Owens and Windhager this season, they all showed signs and might become players in the next few years. Maybe if they draft well this season it won't look to bad for them but it feels like they have been racing for the middle for the last decade and have done a good job off that the last few years.

It is, but the St Kilda FC seems to enjoy foisting bafflement on its supporters, and the football world in general, on a fairly regular basis.

They shouldn't have blown that GF against Collingwood where they had all the momentum in the last quarter, but drew instead and then got belted the next week. That was the one that got away for them

I’m glad we broke our drought not too long after, but that one would have been killing me if I was a Saints fan. Especially the bounce away from Milne. After Goddard took that big grab and goaled, I thought it would be their day.

Imagine if Boyd’s kick bounced the wrong way or Roughy couldn’t hold that mark against 3 opponents in the centre square, then Sydney got a run on and overran us? Jeezus

Well we had our sliding doors moment (wrong side) in 1997 😢

Why would I do that to myself? Enough crap going on in the world and my life as it is.

I just enjoy 2016.

I don’t look at my kids and think ‘Imagine if I got my nuts caught in a tram door when I was 20 and lost them.’

Be kind to yourself Ossie.

As fans can we have it both ways?

On one hand we can applaud clubs for cashing in a player who is of limited value to the side as it looks to reset.

Yet on the other hand, bemoan and slander players who decide to cash in and ask for a trade when their value is at its peak and the club. Something that generally coincides with its pushing for a flag.

I guess we can. After all they are mere trifflings for our amusement.
