Next season could start as early as August

While it’ll be great to attend matches without sweltering on the Norwood concrete, I’m a little concerned about the first half of the season being completely overshadowed by the mens Finals Series.
Amen to that. Norwood Oval is a furnace in summer. Shade...what is that?

It absolutely will be, but to be fair, at the moment we have the problem that the finals series is going to be completely overshadowed by the start of the mens season.

Not for me though. At the moment I don't even get interested in the mens season until the AFLW season finishes :p

Selfishly, I'd like to see the women's season start in the week immediately following the mens grand final. But I understand that would mean an extra month or two in the heat than necessary, so from a player welfare perspective it's better to start earlier.

That’s true - even one of the finals this week is a curtain raiser to a mens game, which isn’t ideal.

On the positive side, there will be clean air for the second half of the season and most importantly, finals.

Hopefully grounds like Adelaide Oval can be available for finals when the time comes, depending on how the cricket season pans out. Adelaide Oval has somewhat done it in the past with an International Rules match happening the day after a cricket tour match.

Even last week, when it was only 22 degrees, it felt about 10 degrees hotter inside the ground. You could feel the temperature drop the instant you walked out of the ground.
Yeah we decided after the first two games at Norwood if the temp forecast was even in the mid twenties we weren't going.
The heat off the concrete in the summer afternoon sun was stifling.
Unfortunately shady spots in the outer were far and few between.
If they play there next year perhaps night games might be a option or another venue with less concrete and more shade.

The club won’t play night games for some reason, preferring to play in the hottest part of the day because it’s ‘Family friendly’.

Having said that, Norwood’s lights are not broadcast standard and additional temporary lights need to be brought in for night games.

If Norwood's lights aren't good enough, no SANFL ground would be.
So afternoons it is

Glenelg, Woodville, Prospect are cricket ovals

screw the drives to Nourlunga or Elizabeth

Good luck playing at Alberton

So that leaves Unley, Norwood, Richmond and Thebarton

I'd say
1. Richmond
2. Thebarton
3. Norwood
4. Unley

note - I'd normally have Unley above Norwood, but a quarter of the ground is inaccessible and another quarter is crap at best. And for an SANFL game, that's fine. But for AFLw to grow, you need the room for fans, and Unley doesn't really have that.

Melbourne and Brisbane are having a genuine finals clash here, real tight and pressured. Scores level at half time, only 8 points each.

Brisbane are looking the better side but Melbourne are hanging in it, and had a chance to take a half-time lead with a shot after the siren (hit the post).

Was there an obvious freeto Brisbane in their goal square not paid?

As I put it on I thought the commentators were talking about that.

Early in the first quarter? Yes, the Melbourne player pulled a Brisbane player's jumper right in the goalsquare, not sure how it was missed.

Mind you, the Brisbane player probably could have just soccered the goal instead of throwing the arms out for a free kick.

Brisbane looked unable to get their game going all day really, didn’t really look like they put much work into Melbournes outside players to stop their slingshot game or man-up on Birch and the like loose behind the ball. Very un-Starcevich like.

What did Caro say this week about the aflw?

Erin to leave to go to Port.
Did she say Melbourne would win?

Anything else she said.

I want her to be so very wrong.

God the stand rule sucks. I get the idea of it but unless the player on the mark is egregiously moving then let the play go. No one goes to the footy to see free kicks.

I remember now she said Hinkley would get another coaching job.

At one stage, the umpire yelled stand, but the Crows player was at least 10m from where the player took the mark and the player who took the mark hadn't moved. The Crows player should be allowed to actually stand where the mark was taken. I understand the rule changes when it's inside the defensive 50m arc to give players space, but not on the wing.

Big moves be happening already

Expected Bombers to pull a few big moves but gee… (pun intended)

Cash and obviously things not all that rosie under Harford.
