gws the first interstate team to lose to their expansion instate rivals
GWS were terrible in the preseason. I'm not surprised they lost, especially with Sydney getting some decent players in the off season.

Brisbane lose to Richmond by a goal today. Would be considered an upset!

We have Richmond next week. They'll be looking to beat us too and announce they've really arrived!
All I remember from Richmond was when the Crows played them and Mon Conti was unbelievably good.

They've added another 8 minutes to a match. Is it really any surprise teams are able to score more?
Yes that's an extra 18 goals compared to previous best but feel there is still a long way to go.

Is it the draw as well?

They have put the new franchises up against the real clubs in the first couple of rounds ie. Port Powah have played us and Brisbane.

Not sure if that is the same for the other new franchises, in previous seasons the AFL have given them softer draws.

Hawthorn knocked off the Western Bulldogs over the weekend, while Essendon are 2-0 with wins over Hawthorn and St Kilda, but face us at Unley on Saturday.

The regression of some clubs has been quite stark this season. West Coast has somehow managed to go backwards, and GWS is trying to outdo West Coast (even losing to Sydney).

We only played Saints and Blues so far, not the newest of teams but I doubt either will make the top 8 this year.

We play Geelong and Brisbane in the next couple of rounds so will probably find it harder to score against them.

It's difficult to know what to make of the season so far. Melbourne are looking scary, scoring big scores against Collingwood and GWS. It seems that GWS are garbage, but Collingwood should be a decent side. North have smashed two sides but neither seem like they're any good. Geelong with two wins over very average sides.

Is Richmond any good? They beat Brisbane but didn't look special against us, and we're not exactly firing on all cylinders. Is Brisbane any good? Is Collingwood? Very hard to get a gauge on it so far.

Melbourne still look like the team to beat at the moment. They're just so potent up forward, whereas scoring goals often feels like pulling teeth for us.

I thought maybe in round 1 it was just because it was a Showdown and just the Port tradition of showing false bravado but watching their other games they have really gone down the unsociable/undisciplined path, so many hits into opponents either off the ball or late after the opposition dispose of it.

Not helping them either as they really shouldn’t be losing to the Saints like they currently are.

Speaking of this game another absolute goal umpire howler here that could change the match…

if you’re straddling the post and the ball hits you it’s safe to assume the ball is going to hit the post you’re straddling

Hahaha, what a shocker. And of course Port win by around a goal.

They have definitely improved on last year though.

They should be better then they are, they should’ve belted that Saints side but too many rush of blood moments & some poor coaching meant they were ordinary for at least half the game, make no mistake that decision changed the complexion of the match.

Low footy IQ game, very little structured game style from either side.

They mentioned that this is the first time Gold Coast and Collingwood are playing each other. Gold Coast have been in the competition for a full 4 years before this season. Pretty ridiculous fixturing to not play an opposition team for over 4 years. West Coast also playing Carlton for the first time in their 5th year.
