We should have one of the toughest draws, as one of the perennial top 4 sides. We finished minor premiers last year despite the tough draw, and top 4 again this season.

But Brisbane only playing two top eight teams is inexcusable, especially given that, as Firewalker demonstrated, the top 8 was mostly predictable again this year.

While it's true Brisbane should have faced a tougher draw, they were scheduled to face every finalist from last season except Essendon. They were also scheduled to play St Kilda, Collingwood and Carlton who finished just outside the 8.

Hawthorn, Fremantle and Port finished 13th through 15th last season. I can't imagine scheduling games against them would have been popular.

That's just what happens with fixturing when four of last year's top 8 don't make finals

Mostly predictable 😉, my Hawks and Port definite’s for the 8 predictions were in hindsight I think quite good & probably reaches given the 2023 results & most probably had them improving but still just out of the 8.

Re:Brisbane’s fixture agree it appears a little soft for a reigning premiers, flying to Perth in the compressed part of the fixture probably seems tough on paper but West Coast had reverted again to a training drill team by that stage. The AFL would argue the 3 trips to Melbourne that were put in the last 4 weeks of the season as being difficult even if 2 of them were against non-finalists from last year, Brisbane fans would probably counter argue though that they played 2 of the 2023 finalist away from home just like the Crows did.

Yeah, fair call. Just funny how that never seems to work in our favour.

Realistically, there is such a large divide between the top 4 and the rest of the comp, that the only relevant question is how many other top 4 teams you had to play.

maybe related to the fairly crude tackle / borderline coathanger she did?

not that that's an excuse but just a thought

Almost certainly it was some arseh*le telling her that she looks like a man.

Presumably it was pretty nasty because Davidson is usually pretty unflappable.

Pretty surprising given how dominant we have been across the 10 years.

To be fair, we had two pretty poor years along the way.
No Biddell in the AA team? Surely that's not right.

The one on the womens.afl site is not the official one, just their prediction, right?

I agree, at least one of Prowse or Biddell has to make it for the team to have any credibility.

Given the game style we play, you take Biddell out of the team and we might not make finals! She is that good and that important.

Not quite sure how smart it is of Ange Foley to be mouthing off here, but it is enjoyable to see it!

Asked if she believed the Tigers held fears for their do-or-die clash, Foley said "Absolutely.".

"We're on a six-game running streak and Richmond have had a couple of shaky games," she said.

"They probably are (scared), Richmond. I hope they are.

"I'm hoping that they heard about what the crowd do when you play here at Alberton. They get up and about."

"We exist to win premierships, don't we? We're not just making up numbers in this eight," Foley said.

"We're absolutely going for the top prize. There's no point being in there if you're not.

"We learned a lot from that (Richmond) game. We get a fair bit of confidence out of it and it's nice to know that you've played that team before.

(In case you're wondering, "that Richmond game" is the one where Port got beaten by four goals)

I see shes gone to the "Chad Cornes School of Playing it Smart"

I'm sure Richmond are shaking in their boots at the prospect of playing the side that barely fell over the line against GWS and Collingwood at Alberton after the fans "got up and about"!

Pretty disappointing. AFLW has always been family friendly and a supportive/encouraging atmosphere.
Hopefully, this was a once off.

2nd incident involving St Kilda fans this season.

There was an incident at our game where a St Kilda fan (with kids in tow) hurling homophobic/ableist abuse at Rainbow Crows.

It’s disappointing these things happen at all, but doubly so at AFLW games because they’re a different, more welcoming and friendly atmosphere.

The AFL has confirmed there will be 12 rounds next season, played over 12 weeks. So one more match than this year (and two more weeks), which is a slight improvement I guess. It seems they are determined to get to the obvious result (everyone plays each other once) in baby steps.

Also, despite having 12 weeks for 12 rounds they are still not ruling out mid-week matches again next year, given that the extra two weeks will likely mean overlapping further with the men's season. That probably won't help attendance much, but it will mean that teams shouldn't have the ridiculous 4-day turnarounds.
