So... Freo next week. Last time we played them, over in Perth, we won 5.9 to 0.6. That was all the way back in round 2.
Freo have gotten a lot better as the season went on, but they did finish off with an easy draw. Jess Allan will have her work cut out for her. Strom has been incredible.

No kidding, their draw has been very generous. And they somehow managed to lose to Carlton, which should be disqualifying in itself! I expect that the match will be the typical "opposition team stays with us until midway through the 3rd quarter" fare.

Port looking pretty good against Richmond, albeit there's still time left but I can't see Richmond getting back from here. You'd have to think Hawthorn will be too strong for them next week, but who knows?

Often when I watch the Crows play, it's the same thing over and over. We are better than we play, but we have too many players that let the team down with their efforts or lack of skill. We have few stars that are consistent. We miss too many opportunities and often our goal kicking can be atrocious. Is Ponter playing injured or just incredibly out of form? Our most consistent players have been Noffy, Randall, J.Allan and Gould. Gould is constantly double or triple teamed and with Ponter playing her worst footy ever and if Hatchard is down on form, we're relying on players that won't get us over the line. Kelly has also been down on form compared to last year.

At our best, we can win another premiership.
At our worst, we could easily be out in straight sets.

Can’t see Brisbane giving too much of a s**t about this, what they did got the desired result. The Hawks would hope they don’t end up getting distracted and can focus on beating Port.

File this again under; the AFL don’t care too much and if it cost extra it’s always an automatic no from them…

The AFLW should have a 10 player rookie list per squad where the players get a part time contract (only covers the playing/training months) that's on a low salary and is totally optional

Agree they should be allowed to add at least a few more rookies to get up to 33 so that allows at least 7 injuries before the very un-professional setup is called upon & the poor old top-up players who are asked to take time out of their everyday lives to come and help out.

You could also allow the rookie list to be only under 22s and have it function as an actual rookie list unlike the men’s comp. That way we wouldn’t see so many of the 20-21 year olds being spat straight out the system given the boom in available draftees over recent years that’s happening currently, they instead could still stay on to see if they will improve if given an extra year in the setup rather than maybe being asked to train once a week with a squad for a season just in case an injury plague happens.

Aurora Smith delisted at Bulldogs is a bit of a surprise to me. Every time I've watched her play, she's looked decent.
Never saw it, every game I saw her play I think she had 2 or 3 disposals, thought she’d already been delisted.

Only announced delisting that’s caught the eye so far is former Gold Coast 1st-round draftee Alana Gee, who had massive wraps on her before she was drafted. They thought she was going to be like a quicker Rowbottom for them from memory but a back injury seemed to have ruined her progress and then done the ACL before the first game this year. Can’t say I was ever overly impressed with her disposal at AFLW level (which was shabby to say the least) but wouldn’t surprise me if she were one to pop up somewhere else.

Ponter in is pretty baffling.

The idea that she's had a better year than, say, Prowse is ridiculous.

I guess the argument would be that she's done better than other forwards. But still...

Is this the first time since 2018 that Hatchard hasn't made the squad?
Obviously just looked at the leading goal kickers list to get Ponter in the forwards section quota, agree a baffling automatic box tick selection in the squad. The strength of all those mids in the comp makes the choice not to select Hatchard off the back of her season an easier decision for those who select the squad.

Glad Randall was acknowledged, although whether she makes the final team will be up to how the selection panel feel as she may not stand out in as many stats sheets as others but she should make the team along with the certainties Marinoff & Gould.

Biddell’s back half of the season was super but feel they’ll probably try to acknowledge more newer first timers in defence.

5 made the AA squad

Ponter doesn't deserve AA. She's had a terrible season. How many good games did she play this year? How many goals did she kick? She had 1 fantastic game. She had a few others where she kicked a few goals but wasn't influential in the midfield.

Not much of a melee. Just a bit of unsportsmanlike behaviour.

Is it crazy to think Marinoff could retire as a 10x All Australian or more?
I think it would be surprising if she didn't, honestly. Just seems to get better every year.

Agreed that Randall deserves to get the nod. Ironically, her finals performance against North might be enough to get her the nod, even though it's meant to be based on minor round form.

Yes, it's extremely obvious the Ponter selection was one based on reputation. They just looked at the goalkickers list, said "oh there's Ponter again, she's always good right?" and picked her.

I don't mean to knock her too harshly, she's not been awful or anything. Much like Hatchard, she gets graded on different curve to most. But she certainly hasn't been at AA squad level.

That would be crazy...
She'd still be behind Randall and Philliips as AFLW Crows best players of all time.

That's arguable. Marinoff is only 26 now. If she continues in her current vein of form for another 6-7 years I would put her as our best player.

Phillips played six seasons for us. I would say she was was exceptional in 2017 and 2019, useful in 2021 and 2022, and injury-affected in 2018 and 2020. I think Marinoff's 2024 is on part with Phillips' 2019 season, and there is an argument to say her 2017 season as well (albeit Phillips' absurdly dominant performance in the 2017 GF probably puts her ahead). If Marinoff has a few more seasons to equal of this one, she will have eclipsed Phillips.

Randall's 2018 and 2024 seasons have been exceptional, with 2017, 2019 and 2022 also useful. But Randall is valuable as more than just an on-field player. She sets standards, she drives players to be the best versions of themselves. And I think Marinoff has already demonstrated she is of the same ilk. Just look at how the games of first Prowse, and then Goodwin have developed since moving in with Eb. If I was a new draftee to the Crows, I would be begging to move in with Marinoff.

Are they using the AFLW for 'rookie' umpires? It sure looks like it. The umpiring is horrendous and wildly inconsistent.

It's a mix of rookie umpires (several are getting AFL gigs next season) and umpires that the states keep pushing for an AFL gig but the AFL aren't interested in them.
