I went and checked and, yes, it is. Breaks a streak of six squad listings in a row, including four times making the final team (19, 20, 22, 22B).
Hopefully it serves as a wakeup call for her going into 2025.
Yep and the funny thing is if you look at who she’s competing against directly for a spot in that forward line (Gilroy, McDonagh and O’Loughlin) they were seen to have great season’s but all have very comparable seasons stat-wise to Ponter

To be fair to Ponter, she's managed 14 goals (in the minor rounds) despite also spending a bunch of time in the midfield. So perhaps on that metric she's done okay compared to full-time forwards with similar goal tallies. The problem is that it hasn't really translated into many additional possessions, the one standout game against Hawthorn aside. It's usually just been two or three really eye-catching clearances, and then not much in the forward line.
She's down in all statistical categories this year compared to 2023, and was held goalless six times out of 11 minor round matches (as opposed to two times from 10 minor round matches in 2023). But in her favour, she did most of her damage against the higher teams on the ladder. Five goals against Hawthorn, three against North, two against Essendon, one against Freo. Other than three cheapies against GWS, that's her entire goal output coming against top eight teams.
BTW as I’ve done previously after they release the squad of 42, here’s what my 2024 AFLW All-Australian team would be;

Most pick themselves but suspect the selectors will try to get another Victorian or someone they see as flavour of the month in there. I could mount an argument to include the extra defender over Conway in which Biddell would be part of the conversation, as would Charlotte Thomas from the Eagles.
Probably in the selectors final team they’ll have a discussion for Matilda Scholz as an extra ruck instead for that last spot but reckon she should be behind Lucy Wales from the Hawks for that spot if they were truely being objective.
Thomas & Alice O’Laughlin (NM) stiffest to miss in my team though; O’Laughlin easily the best ‘true’ small forward/non-hybrid mid-fwd, given where North finished compared to the rest of the league feel Mia King and (as much as I’m not a fan personally) Libby Birch should’ve been in the 42.

There will be many players come through that are better than Phillips was - probably already are.
BUT, I don't think we will see a player who is as much better than the second best player than we saw with Phillips. She was so far above everyone else in those early years it was insane.

Really, it was just in 2017. Phillips in 2017 was straight-up unfair to the opposition. She was something like the competition's 3rd best midfielder AND the 3rd best forward simultaneously, despite only spending half her time in each role. Like having two AA players in a single body. And I still think her 2017 GF performance was the best any player has ever posted in AFLW.
The injuries in 2018 knocked her about and by 2019 the competition had developed enough that Phillips was "only" the best player in the comp rather than leagues ahead of the rest.

Yeah, it's nuts. Probably more.
She's only what 26 now? 27? She'll get her 7th this year... and it's perfectly realistic to think she'd do it 5 more times. She could play another 10 years at this rate.
Phillips in her time, was by far the best player in the league - best forward and best midfielder. The combo meant she could win games all by herself. As years passed, the league got better and she was getting pretty old, but with 2 best on ground performances in the first two GF wins is huge. I remember some games early on, when the Crows couldn't score, she would be able to pull something out of nothing to get them over the line.
Is Hatchy carrying an injury? She's not nearly as big a force on the field, slow, fumbly as hell. Doesn't seem to be dominating everything within 5 meters of her. Been that way all season.
Nothing that's been disclosed by the club. There was that one season she had a foot injury the whole year, but still played.

Marinoff has a pretty fair case to make for being the "face" of the league thus far. She's been an absolute mainstay. AFLW Champion player of the year, the games record holder (tied with Ally Anderson), first ever AFLW rising star, triple premiership player, only player to be in the AA squad every season, is the leading disposal and tackle player in the history of the comp (probably some other stats as well). And she's a decent chance to pick up the League MVP this year.
I guess if she can win a fourth premiership, this time as captain, it will go some way to cementing her legacy.

Honestly, it's been a problem ever since the 2022B season. She was dominant in the first 2022 season (when she was the clear BOG in our premiership win) and hasn't been nearly as good since.
Looks to me like she's added a bit of size since last season

Only 1 field umpire is officially getting promoted to the AFL list - and even he’s actually umpired a few AFL games already as he was covering Eleni Tee’s maternity leave this season.
2 boundary umpires and a goal umpire are also being promoted via the AFLW.
She should be celebrated more. Thats for certain.
Ebony will be at the top of the all time Crows list for a long time. But she was stuck in the shadows for a long time behind the marquee names during her career. I think only now people are realising how good she has been.
She was also young and just starting out at the time.

Absolutely agree with you. 2017 Phillips was the best player in the comp by such a margin it isn't funny. Knee injuries and improvements in others saw her come back to the pack by the end.
That first year though...wow.

I can accept her argument that she decided to tackle, and then realised too late that it was going to be high and probably give away a free kick.
That absolutely does not entitle her to then launch in the air and collide with her opponent's head. She says she "instinctively jumped out of the way", but in reality she jumped directly at Kemp. There was no bodily motion of any sort indicating she was trying to avoid contact. The tribunal has been hoodwinked on this one.

Considering it's finals and there's no other video angles, I expected her to get off.
