That's because I'm only 3 episodes in and can't judge it yet. A bit slow to get going, but I get the impression it's just going to keep getting better.

It's been on my "need to watch list" for ever.

Note: it has one of the worst opening credits ever lol.

It's definitely a slow burn to start with as it relies heavily on character development. I know plenty of people that never made it through the first few episodes. Trust me, it's worth it. The opening credits look dodgy as hell but the awesome thing is how the song has a different cover version each season.

Season 1 - The Blind Boys of Alabama
Season 2 - Tom Waits
Season 3 - The Neville Brothers
Season 4 - DoMaJe
Season 5 - Steve Earle

The song is brilliant.

Anyone who loves sports documentaries should check out the "ESPN 30 for 30" series.

They are simply brilliant.

The one about the Michigan Wolverines championship team with Chris Webber, Juwon Howard, Jalen Rose etc, was freaking awesome.

I didn't know that. That's cool. I'm used to character development heavy shows, so I'll definitely stick it out. Hopefully I can still leech off my mate's Netflix account lol, I think I missed it on Foxtel Boxsets.

Watched the first episode last night, and it's one of those shows I probably could have got on board with during uni when I had plenty of free time, but it really didn't catch me enough to persist with for now. Already watching too many shows as it is!

Once you've got a bit of time to dedicate to a new show it's worth giving it another go. I think the big issue for a lot of people is the initial pilot is so bloody long and there's not a huge amount in it to draw you in. It takes a few eps for you to develop some level of connection to characters and start to get drawn in. That's a solid few hours of tv watching to achieve that. Still strongly believe it's worth the effort though. The amount of background research they do in to each series is phenomenal. And each series focuses on a different element of drug crime.

Have you seen Charlie Brooker's 'review' on it?

Just watched it then, did like the dig towards the end at people watching crap like Paris Hilton and just how far we've come along with the amount of crap that is now "mainstream" tv.

Should I watch that if I've only seen the first 3 episodes? Is it too spoilerific?
It does have scenes from further down although they're not massive spoilers.

That said, I don't believe something like that is going to make you want to watch the show. The Wire is a slow burner where it develops all the characters really along with the story without any weak plots that are in just about every tv show.

Basically, once you watch The Wire, it's hard to find anything that comes close to it in terms of perfection imo (I first watched that followed by The Sopranos a few years ago, talk about setting a high standard for everything else I've watched since).

If it ends up being as good quality as The Sopranos, I'll love it.

So for comedy dogs105 and you having netflix - Parks and Rec is quite funny (although completely skip the first season as that wasn't them not really knowing what sort of show they wanted). It's a mockumentary on a small Parks and Recreation local govt department in the middle of nowhere US. Amy Poehler stars and is incredibly funny. It also features Chris Pratt before he went all superhero muscles in Guardian of the Galaxy and Jurassic World.

There are some DW series for you to catch up on a bit too if you have only watched the Tennant era ;) The netflix originals in Daredevil and Jessica Jones are favourites of mine, but they are quite violent so no kiddies around when watching. Jessica Jones features Tennant as the vilian.

Broadchurch is an amazing drama series about the murder of a young boy in a small coastal UK town and how it effects the whole town. It's hard watching but oh so good.
