Ash Hansen wasn't that bad. He wasn't a big goal scorer at AFL level but he was an important link up CHF for us during our GF runs. At WAFL level he kicked a lot of goals. Kicked 11 against Peel in his final season with a number of bags in other games.

So what you're telling me is that he was a good WAFL player who just didn't crack it at AFL level.

Just comparing Hansen to the much maligned Jack Darling.

Hansen was a multiple goal scorer 21 times, held goalless 23 times.
Darling was a multiple goal scorer 154 times and held goalless only 51 times. After season 1 (6 multiple to 9 goalless games) he never had a season with more goalless games than multiple goal games.

That's what you want from a CHF. And it's not as if Hansen was playing in a rubbish team where the ball rarely went forward of the centre square.

Darling's second for games and goals at the club. We're not getting that with every CHF. A premiership winning CHF like Langdon or Hansen is far more likely.

Think I recall a stat back in the day that we were more likely to win when Hansen played as opposed to when he didn't.

He might not have been a prolific goal kicker, but was important for the link up play.

Yep , had a very high winning % when he played.

His issues weren't really form related, it was that his bod was made of glass.

JD's main criticisms are brain fades and dropping easy marks at crucial moments, criticisms he deserves, plus he's been cooked for a couple of years now. Was a wonderful player for a long time however.

Hansen played a very important role and although never a prolific goal kicker, was a vital link to the forward line. Had an unreliable body however.

Was he as good as JD? Obviously not.

He was not a 'rubbish' footballer though. His best is what you'd expect from most competent AFL CHFs.

Yep. There are no words that even begin to cover what he’s done for MND with the dignity and bravery with which he’s carried himself in the public eye. I can’t think of a more worthy recipient.

Agree. Class. And had he not been cruelled by injury he would have shown he was an exceptional footballer. Best of the Danihers.
