Most of the Riverina is far closer to Melbourne that Sydney and hisorically and culturally associated. Just as Broken Hill is associated with Adelaide although in NSW. The borders ion Federation havent changes alliances. I think Chesser was from Albury (NSW) bit schooled in Meloourne - a 3 hour drave - Sydney is 7-8. This is why GWS focus on canberra and the Riverina. Canberra is middle ground and for many in the the Riverina a shopping destination.

I've decided. It's that, among planning for regular top 4 finishes, 60k members over two countries, strong corporate connections and regular surpluses, they decided to go with 'reduce debt'. How bad are their finances that debt elimination was considered too fanciful for that list?

Albury-Wodonga is 4 hours from most of Melbourne and 5.5 hours from Olympic Park.

At least “growing presence in bayside area” is a nice loose kpi to meet.

Their debt is apparently very large and a real financial burden. They are the most indebted club.

You've got to spend money to make losses!

What a dumb discussion - the glory of BF pedants and well lets with a focus on the irrelevant. - the context of teh discussion is that many areas of the Riverina have a closer affiliation to Melbourne than Sydney. The are far closer by distance. Hence players from such areas would be closer to home by distance - very much so - and by cultural association if in Melbourne rather than Sydney. Just as I pointed out people in Broken Hill look to Adelaide not Sydney.

Bogus maps dont show how people feel.

I was just curious when you said Albury was 7-8 hours from Sydney but only 3 from Melbourne, so I checked Google maps, as I’ve had to fly there from Melbourne before for work after my boss thought it was too far to drive, and that was from the northern suburbs.

The cultural association stuff I have no comment on

Lots of talk on the main board about it. North and Saints supporters are always arguing about which club should fold/move to Tassie.

The annual report would show their debt levels if you want to see the actual numbers.
Their net asset position is $29m as of 31 October 2021. Much of it tied up in PPE. Financial liabilities are 6.5m and they've paid down $250k.

It's far better than what I had anticipated tbh. Balance sheet looks strong.

** Edit - Norf in a far less strong position. They don't appear to have received the same level of Govt grants as St Kilda though.

Check out Wagga - well into NSW in the Riverina but the Wagga Tigers are a Vic centric culture. Mildura - on the Murray but close to Adelaide. For some reason (past players??) thers is a strong Richmond following in Mildura.

Channel 10 have gone with naming Ross Lyon as an 'unbackable favourite' to become St Kilda coach.

Anyone got some melts from St Kilda fans when he left to bump?
