Very true. Don’t discount them pulling out some “surprise” wins though. Sydney in Sydney in their (the Swans) current form isn’t an insurmountable challenge and Geelong may take ‘em easy travelling here 😆

A surprise win and they’re back 😂

They’ll be happy to snag a few more wins and only give Melbourne pick 9 or 10 instead of pick 4.

Really enjoyed the BackChat podcast with Adam Treloar. Unlucky the poor bloke has done another hammy. For anyone wondering what some players do for personal training, recovery etc, Treloar has spent over 100k on his home gym (in a battle with Dunkley for best setup), has sauna, ice bath, all the gear (bit like Shuey has set up in the last year) and still hurt himself in a game.
Dunkley has one of those full body cryotherapy machines in his Brissy set up now.

However Rayner and Mathieson probably out do everyone now with their new gym (it's a business).

Simmo has to accept some responsibility for that injury

I mean, we don't win the 2018 GF and Treloar might still be playing for Collingwood and a different set of circumstances may have lead to him not doing a hammy.

You're right.

On Duffield's podcast during the week he takes texts/emails, one went along the lines of: "Compare West Coast and Collingwood - both were in the 2018 GF and look at them now, looks like Collingwood planned for the future a lot better."

And the other won the flag. What an imbecilic observation.

Yeah, I don't get it. Better to be a loser club than a team that won a flag?

So having a look at Freos remaining games, they’ll be lucky to get to 10 wins. In a year that they were supposed to be challenging for a flag. We’ve been putrid. Massive injuries, but still putrid. At least when we go down, it’s been after a flag, and we build towards the next one. Imagine making the finals after 6 years out, and then not backing it up, on top of 28 years of nothing. We’re bad, but far out, we’re going ok in the grand scheme of things.
When both clubs were 1-3 earlier this season I copped a lot of blowback from my Freo mates by saying I'd rather be in our position.

We know where we're at and have the strategy in place to fix it, as painful as the short-term will be. And we'll always have 2018.

They're going nowhere. One finals appearance in ages on the back of career years by role players, some of who they subsequently traded. And spunked their draft capital on that unicorn key forward they can never draft and develop themselves.

If only we picked up the Brownlow favourite for free as a father/son. Should have planned better.

It's a no brainer that our list appeared to be over estimated by the club in 2021. Much like 2013. Thought we had one last premiership tilt in them. It obviously went balls up on field and off field something worse must've gone down. At least the changes are in place now.

Collingwood also helped a fair bit by having three AFL quality father/sons in that 5 years...

If you ask someone whether in the 5 years you'd prefer:

  • Making a Grand Final, and being good a few years later
  • Winning a Grand Final, and being s*** a few years later

Who picks option 1?

The rich Vfl clubs of pre and early Afl would have the genes advantage

I agree, but the system doesn't allow rapid list change and we have no trad capital to leverage. Our list managesneed to look a few seasons ahead. They, who ever they are, may but not successfully
