I never really understood why people preferred JHF to Daicos, except for his height and feeling like he could become a Cripps/Fyfe-type tall midfielder. From memory, Daicos was a even or slightly ahead of JHF going into their draft season and then put up video game numbers (averaging 36 disposals and 2 goals). I think everybody just got kind of bored with Daicos because he had been highly regarded forever and everyone knew that he’d end up at Collingwood. But he was always the best player in that class, for mine.

Daicos is a gun and plays to his strengths but he's a bit of a squib and quite possibly this is his ceiling. Of course, you'd take that any day of the week but he'd want to find his contested side over the next few years, otherwise he'll get shut out of games quite easily.

JHF will probably be able to throw Port on his back and carry them to wins in the future, despite whatever attention he receives.

Last week I was gonna watch the game on kayo after I found out the result but 5 mins before the game ended some woman in the street mentioned Eagles are winning . It was good watching it afterwards because I didn't have to hope we lose .

JHF was available, Daicos wasn't, it impacts how people view players. GWS didn't bid on him either. They bid on Darcy and took Callaghan so they didn't even rate him in the top 3. My gut feel is if JHF didn't have a hardon to go number one we would have bid on Daicos, similar to Ashcroft last year.

I don't know if it is justified or not, but people see the type of X-factor with JHF that is a bit like Dusty, there are very good midfielders who beat Dusty 80-90% of the game only to have him turn on a 10-15 minute period where he would blow open the game and kick 3 or 4 goals. How do you quantify that with someone who just performs at a very high standard consistently, Richmond didn't achieve success until they got Prestia and they weren't reliant on Dusty as a nuts and bolts midfielder.

I think there is a lot more expectation on his shoulders than there was at Dusty at the same age... that being said, he has contributed towards that spotlight to some degree.
