I am not huge with the AFL conspiracy theorist but, it’s hard not to buy into the Geelong getting preferential treatment with Christian.

How many times has a Geelong player been given a lighter, or no punishment at all, yet another player gets a week or two. Williams is another example of this.

Danger gets shat on quite regularly so I don't buy into this one... as much as I hate danger

I said he was toxic. He publicly lambasted the coach who brought them to their highest finish, nearly a finals appearance, well after he had already been sacked, to cast public vision away from their own continued failings. Sorry, that's a toxic person.

Then he publicly labelled the playing group as rubbish. That's toxic, too, and unbecoming of a club president in my opinion. That's the stuff you deal with behind closed doors.

I'm not suggesting he hasn't been good for business, but they are two different things.

Everyone has a different view. Tony says it how it is. I do not see it as toxic. He has had to deal with the aftermath of what was toxic.
I wish we had someone like Tony after the sage. Maybe we would not have spent 5 seasons dicking around and would have drawn a line and got on with it.
Gold Coast failings are fairly and squarely at the feet of the AFL who initially tried to set up the club as cheap as possible and gave them less concessions than GWS.

Sometimes the hard truth is needed. The have been rubbish on the field. Personally I have no issue with that. Unlike us where the players complained about it.
IMO they are not two separate issues.

You keep pointing to him as the issue yet he has been the one who ran the cocaine crew out of town. Got the money to finally give them an AFL standard training venue. Maybe they do not have the right coach but in the back ground they have rebuilt everything else. Now they just need to get the current build right which is only two years in. The past is the past. They have moved on everyone who did not want to be there. Anyone who thought they where not going to be a bottom 4 side this year was / is a very bad judge. They will need to improve on field but they also needed to be given time as a younger list that has had key injury problems.

Can’t help but feel a little aggrieved by the fact that a team expected to flounder this year like Essendon, had to play all of our interstate trips early in the year in a cluster plus the Dreamtime game (6 in total) while now we are seeing Vic teams avoiding interstate travel due to Covid risks. It can’t be helped that this rescheduling has had to happen but it does feel a bit skewed that the reigning premiers had 3 interstate games scheduled in that time (plus Dreamtime) and now get to play GC in Vic. At least they have to play at a venue that they feel aggrieved by having to play at I suppose…

Edit: I forgot about our little trip to Launceston as well. That’s 7 interstate games to Richmond’s 4. There was a ladder showing us near the bottom for games against top 8 sides. Five of those were interstate (only played Melbourne in Vic) of which we lost 4. For a young side, we’ve done well not to have let the season slide away by now.

The slight positive thing is that we need teams like Swans, Giants, Dockers and Eagles to lose matches if we are to make finals so tougher for them if they have to play more games away from home.

In one hand it adds an air of whoever is left standing has had to overcome a lot. Like say the dogs who basically got screwed out of their bye.

Then you have Tigers who complained quite vocally about having to go on the road and how hard it was (fair, I don't pretend to discount the family issues) but now we have zero complaining or really anything from the interstate clubs who have just got on with things. Compared to the Vics who stand on there platforms and cry about it.

Then you have clubs like us who whilst have been disadvantaged we aren't a challenger so are irrelevant to the conversation.

It's another year of disruption which can lead to some teams getting a raw deal. But it does open up the opportunity that if whoever is good enough to win it was disadvantaged the win is even more meritorious.
Of course the opposite is also true if a team that cops some luck through fixturing and covid while their opposition doesn't and they happen to win with this advantage. Well it leaves a sour taste.

I look at it that I want our young guys to learn and deal with adversity. I want them to bond and build resilience along with our skills and game plan development. As much as I want relatively fair officiating too it's probably not the worst thing for our players to deal with ignoring that and playing that game in front of them. I can think of at least 3 games this year where we have received a pretty raw deal on that front.

From that perspective this year is perfect dealing with adversity from the above, quickly changing circumstances and injury. The signs are good our players can deal with it and that bodes well for our future. Certainly a refreshing change from blaming losses on travel, wet weather, team selection etc etc

18 teams in Melbourne this weekend... VicBias? Anyway, Saturday looks like a mess;

Does Freo host Carlton at the 'G or in Geelong?

Adelaide/Brisbane I guess they play earlier at Marvel maybe... they'd need time to deep clean it before Hawthorn/Port though. Unless they close Tier 3 for the first game and close Tier 1 for the second one or something 🤔
