Sure, but surely leaving Buddy one out against 15000 randoms hitting him in the head and pulling on his jumper isn't the solution.
Not sure what they could have done tbh. On the alternate angle, there were already a hundred people 20m behind him once the ball left his boot. Unless security were already on the field surrounding him, it would've been too late anyway.

Thankfully it seemed everyone was pretty tame from the vision (minus a couple rowdy dickheads). I'd guarantee he's copped much worse at festivals with 100 gurners clinging to him.

Agreed g.d. And I’d hazard a guess that we would be the team he’s kicked the most against.

Geelong 62 now.

To be fair they probably thought the people who's actual job it was to protect him wouldn't duck off for a smoko.

Fair, but at least a couple of them were initially around him and then bunked.

There was actually some random hairy bloke who basically followed him at his back for a good 10 minutes, he was left very vulnerable and while it’s a great moment, something really bad could have happened.

Sydney have a really nice list now. Even with Rampe, Parker, Lloyd, Kennedy, Buddy, Hickey and Cunningham all getting on a bit (although Lloyd and Cunningham are only 28, maybe a bit harsh) they have two key forwards to set their watch to in McDonald and McLean (who looks like he could turn into that 25-30 goal forward/ruck), the McCartin brothers look very solid in defence, plus a midfield of Warner, Florent, Mills, Rowbottom and Heeney to play the Martin/Stringer role, scary stuff. Wicks and Hayward look very lively too.

Sure.

Lets see how good they can build a list now that their acadmeys are gone thpugh.

Sure. They have 8 academy players on their list. Four of which went first round, one second round and threenrookies. I don't particularly like the fact that they got Blakey but the rest are all Rugby converts, one is a spud (James Bell), two could have been taken in the open draft (Wicks and Sheather) and a third wasn't bid on until pick 32.

For arguments sake, if you were to remove the Academy players from their 25 and under side it'd still look like:

Will Gould - Patrick McCartin - Lewis Melican
Justin McInerney - Tom McCartin - Lachlan Rankin*
Dylan Stephens - Oliver Florent - Corey Warner*
Will Hayward - Joel Amartey - Ben Ronke*
Tom Papley - Logan McDonald - Hayden McLean
Peter Ladhams - Chad Warner - James Rowbottom
Angus Sheldrick - Matthew Roberts* - Barry O'Connor* - Lachlan McAndrew*

*Players most likely to be replaced by Heeney, Mills, Campbell, Wicks, Blakey and Gulden

There are holes but it's still a strong group

They aren’t a great prospect without Heeney, Mills, Gulden and maybe Blakey.

I’m actually a bit embarrassed that his teammates just ditched him and left him to contend battling though 20 thousand sweaty pissheads
Hardly ditched him, if you watch the replay the crowd is literally already running on and are 10m away from him before it’s even left his boot. Only the team mates in his immediate area could get could get around him.

Fairly certain that when Plugger broke the record, he was surrounded by his teammates to protect him.

These were great scenes tonight, but the lack of protection Buddy received was a disgrace. I don't blame his teammates, security or police should have forced their way through the crowd to escort him off the field.

Having said that, I thought Buddy handled himself really well. Soaked up the occasion, took all of the head pats in his stride and didn't get stressed with 1000's of supporters wanting a piece of him. Whoever grabbed that ball after the goal is one lucky person.
